Tyre width caliper

I find myself owing a colleague a tyre width caliper, something like this:



I’m very embarrassed at loosing his plastic one, so I am looking for a nicer one to replace it with. Are there any aluminum or vintage versions of this caliper which are better quality and generally nicer, without being too heavy?

Those crummy plastic ones are what pretty much everyone uses. Your sentiment is nice but I doubt your friend cares to have a fancy one.
A replacement for the lost one is available for around ten bucks from a zillion sources. Buy your buddy one of those and a pint instead

Yup. That's why I was confused by the whole "tyre width" label. It's for measuring wheel width. I remember those days well.

Thanks. Feels like plastic has the advantage of not being able to scratch anything, whether it's during use or if it gets dropped. Plus they're nice and light

Also cheap - for when I put it down when I'm talking to someone and then wander off. Maybe I should buy a multipack.

Good point on the non-scratch. Want to leave that to the drivers.
