U.S. Army Tool Bag 2-3-170

Trying to find out what this tool bag held. I saw one on ebay and one on Piclick, but no info about them. There is a piece of spring steel sown into the seam that is about 13" long. Wondering if anybody knows what thsi kit held, and approximate age.

Judging by their appearance, they are post WW2. I bought some several years ago at a military vehicle meet in Northern California. They seem to be a newer version of the bag that held the onboard toolset in WW2 Jeeps and possibly other vehicles.
