U.S. Metal Buildings - Any experience with them?

Has anyone done business with U.S. Metal Buildings?

They run ads around here saying you can get a big discount if you agree to participate in their display building program. Basically if you agree to show your building to potential customers they'll give you an additional discount and, supposedly, pay you after the fact as well.

The premise is they are doing this to increase their presence in selected counties across the country. Their sales guy left me a message and it was very well rehearsed. He definitely sounded like an infomercial guy. But, just because they have slick salesmen doesn't necessarily mean they don't sell a decent building.

I'm not really concerned with getting the cheapest building I can get, but if this deal is legitimate and the buildings are good, I don't see anything wrong with getting the best deal I can.

If anyone can give some first-hand feedback on this company I'd really appreciate it.

I have been selling metal buildings for years and that is one of the most common lines along with overstock and someone put down a deposit and didn't take the building etc, etc.

The internet has really screwed up the metal building business. In reality there are no stock buildings laying around waiting to be bought. All buildings are built to order. Most of the dealers on line are brokers and don't actually build anything.

My best advice to anyone wanting to buy a building is to deal with a local contractor that you can sit down with and have that person visit your site to give you an informed estimate.

I know that there are people that have had great luck with on line purchases but I have been involved with plenty of horror stories. Don't assume that the local guy can't meet or beat the internet price either.

Honestly the best price I've gotten from anybody is a local company. However, even they buy the pre-fab materials from a manufacturer, they don't do it all in-house. But at least they will be around for support after the fact. So I kind of have a favorite already, but I'm still collecting comparison data.

I have been in the steel building business since 1994 in the metro DC market and most of the sales gimmicks are scams.

I'm a dealer for 5 companies including a VIP Dealer for Heritage Building Systems. They have the quickest quotes and best prices for me.

If that is the company the local guy reps then I wouldn't worry about it. He will have to stand behind it.
