UFO/high bay lights outside

Good morning,

I’m thinking of running stainless steel wire from my shop out to my conex.

I was looking at bistro lights and not super happy with all the selection. Then it occurred to me that I might be able to put together a wiring harness with some quality, UV resistant wire and run some UFO style shop lights along the wire.

I was thinking of something like hyper lights. Reading the marketing material they say they are waterproof and dustproof. And “Never worry about this product being damaged from outdoor weather conditions!”

I’ve not stumbled across anyone using these outdoors.

Will they be strung high enough from the ground to provide semi-reasonable distribution? They are typically intended to be 15'+ from the ground.

I don't know where you are located but on the Gulf Coast I prefer lights to be some distance away due to the huge number of bugs they attract. Lights right over a door or right over your work will draw maddening numbers off bugs.

Good points. The shop eave is 30’ up. Angled down to maybe 10 for the conex as it is I can put them on the high side.

I’ve been working on this. I purchased a single ufo light as a test. It works great. Lights up the place like the sun.

I’m thinking about putting 5 or so lights along the stainless wire from the workshop to the conex. About 200 feet total run. Along with built in motion sensors.

Does anyone have experience with the motion sensors on these things? I’d prefer they come on when I passed under. And that they have programmable “on” times. Say 1-5 minutes.

What I don’t want is for them to light up every time the wind blows.
