I made one a while back, never did work very well.. I only used 1/2" pipe (I think) for the air inputs and ended up having to run it with all 3 caps off and the valve wide open just to hold 220 degrees.

It's one of those things I've always meant to get around to fixing.. I want to open the holes up and weld in some 3/4" pipe ******* and see if that helps.

Let us know how yours works!

I built one last year and it's great. It took a couple of cooks to fine tune it, but now that I know its quirks, it works really well. They're very efficient and the coals can last 14-16+ hours (long enough to smoke pork shoulder and then some).

The key to maintaining temp (225-250) is to make sure all your seams are sealed so there are no air leaks. Air leaks were the biggest problem right after I first built mine.
