Hey all.

Finally decided to register, as the lack of viewable pictures in some of the threads was just too much to resist :lol_hitti.

I have been into designing garages / workshops / commercial buildings etc etc from when I was small, and in the end I decided that it was more of a hobby than anything else at the time, and haven't really pursued it much further. Now on finishing my Degree at University, Im having second thoughts about where I go next.

Is there a commercial market or even an existing "job" for someone who isnt an "architect" as such or a "structural engineer", but someone who understands what people want in a workshop, and can translate that to what an architect needs to know, taking into account expansion, local weather, budgets, and usage etc etc.

I may be trying to make a mountain out of a molehill, but judging by a lot of peoples headaches and heartaches on their projects, and some of the horror stories and "you ****" stories, it seems to me like there might be something.

Of course the UK doesn't have many/any real huge personal barns / workshops / garages / man caves and for all my cool thoughts I have, I should have been born in the US/Canada, but do I have a hope in hell?

Someone please make sense of my spontaneously combusting and utterly nosensical thought patterns?

cheers

Dunc

Welcome to GJ.

I think this board is full of DIY folks mostly. I think a lot of the folks here treat it as a hobby like you do. That said, I'm sure there are folks with less time that just want it "done" without the hassle. Would there be enough in one geographic area that would need such a service? Hard to say. Maybe if you traveled around as a consultant and maybe did some project management for such clients it could work?? Just brainstorming here, and I'm definitely not an expert.
