Beautiful 55! How in the world did you sleep at night with that car sitting in a hotel parking lot???

I’m so paranoid I won’t let my ‘67 Chevelle SS out of my sight. In fact, I pulled the motor/trans so no one can steal her!

(Kidding - I’m refreshing the engine compartment and doing a few ‘upgrades’).

To tell you the truth it always makes me consider that the other hotel customers are driving new cars worth as much or more then my 55 and they sleep ok. So I have plenty of insurance, and park it in highly visible, well lit locations.

My car also has a electric parking brake and a remote kill switch (Both hidden) so unless they have a crane it will be kind of loud for them to get it out of the parking space.

Robert, what were you in Bowling Green for? I assume something at Beech Bend? We have a lake house 40 minutes east of Beech Bend. I’ve raced there several times years ago. I would have loved to see that car up close, it is amazing! Awesome job on the whole thing. What I love most, is you get out and drive it. Just like it was meant for.

Sorry for the very late reply. I have been locked out of this account and the Admins don't reply to emails. finally powered up my old desktop and had access to my password files and ...voila

Anyway. My wife and I took three weeks off work and drove the 55 from Salinas Ca. to Bowling Green Kentucky using as much of Route 66 that is still derivable. to attend the Tri Five Nationals. Burned 37 tanks of gas. Car ran perfectly with just a couple hickups mostly atributed to brand new fuel system plugging its filters with some unlnown materials and a brand new wiper motor giving up in the heaviest rain I have ever seen.

A little update, we attended the west coast Tri Five event in Bakersfield. (200 miles away) Drove the car down and hung out with a bunch of like minded old men and women. A 2 day show out at Famoso Dragstrip home of some of the greatest drag races in history. The place drips with history. They opened the track up to the car show entrants and had just a few simple rules. Cars could run as is with a passenger if it was not faster then 13.99, cars could run with no helmet if not faster then 12.99 so I figured what the heck I will grab my best friend and the two of us will make a soft pass and I can say my car has run a pass at Bakersfield.

So being that I have to drive the car 200 miles back home I sure did not want to hurt it, also the street tires ain't exactly what you would call sticky so launching the car is just not going to happen. My plan was to just let the clutch out and open the throttle and not really get in to it until the top of second gear. The track was prepped and I know it offered traction but I was not sure it would let me put all 555 HP My car puts down at the wheels so caution was the order of the day. So enough excuses here is the pass;

12.51 at 119 MPH They kicked us out. But it was fun.

with slicks and a proper launch this thing is an honest 11 second street car.
