well ive been working for AZ for about 10 months now and though i hate the corporate atmosphere i enjoy helping people and wrenching(what little i get to do) but to make my life easier and the whole changing batteries and such a little faster and more professional i decided to start bringing my own tools. so after about a month of shoving as many tools as i could into my small box ive figured out the best assortment of tools to have.

heres some pics and the list of whats in the box!

Very nifty. I love planning out a project box like that, though it takes a while and a few "oh ****" moments before you know exactly what you need in there.

car batteries haha....in just about everything actually...
im the one who gets the hard cars....beemers,vw's(even a phaeton),and anything high end

and i use the box for everyday stuff too
the box goes with me just about everywhere i go nowadays and has come in handy more than a few times

Battery terminal spreader? Most times when people replace an OLD battery they have the dang terminal tightened down so far you can't get it on a new battery post without opening it up.

Do you ever have a customer complain of losing electronic data when the battery is swapped? Or do most of the elect systems now have a battery backup?

Thats funny, I spent a winter, a couple years back on the north side of Phoenix in a meat and potatoes independent garage, as a general tech, I soon too put together a "battery tool box" for it seemed about every other car I touched needed a battery. We had 4 bays, 6 lifts outside, but we worked on cars all over the property, because the place was that busy, which is why I put together the battery tool box. I was easier than trying to wheel my tool cart all over, and allot of work was done on gravel. Great area to work in winter, but I was gone by March, and headed back north, I don't do the summer heat thing,,...

Great Idea. Not to hijack thread but I did that for tools that stay in the garage and tools needed in the house. As the house is undergoing a rehab of sorts, the needed tools change often. But every house uses basic tools and I broke it down to one of those cloth thingies that go over/into a five gallon pail. It holds enuf tools for general household work. Yeah, they are duplicates of what's in the shop but that's what flea markets and garage sales are for, right?

BTW, you are essentially doing what they do in NASCAR. They specialize tool boxes and carts for certain jobs. Example: a crash cart for the front end. It has al the parts used on the front end along with all the fasteners and tools. Ditto for the rear end and so on. Even in the shop they have carts for just putting body panels on and they include the light duty MIG welder.

BUT, where's your battery carrier and brush?? Do you just use the store's?

Nope cause I use a memory saver...goes into the obd2 and hooks to a battery booster. I'm about the only person who does it at my store

I don't like battery spreaders...I've never had grat luck with em

Into the OBD2? Interesting. I used to use the lighter, but with new cars having that switched (stupid idea) I took to using a lantern battery with gator clips clipped to the battery leads.

i use the stores because the brushes dont last long and i dont wanna waste the money when i can just use the stores and i rarely use a battery carrier

I hear that. I use the battery carrier a lot. (Group 65's with no handles in lifted F150's = pretty tough without a carrier.)

That's really the only way to ensure all systems in all vehicles remain powered. We use a jumper pack and alligator leads.

Word. I should have mentioned there's a bit of informal "training" to complete before they use it. We've had bad luck using a memory saver; through the ALDL port or through a power port.

yeah it works sometimes...i tell em that from the beginning so they dont get pissed when everything gets erased
