i guess. I just can't help but wonder what these people are thinking. this is an extreme example, but I get very low offers on BINBO listings on a regular basis. Do these people really think that someone is gong to accept their offer of 10% of asking price, or are they just killing time?

I get those offers as well. IMO they probably send out hundreds of offers with hopes of a few cheapo sales on things they'll try and resell for profit. That's the only way I can make sense of it.

Sell for the $1.50 but charge a $2000 entrance fee onto your property to remove. Just be sure to disclose info prior to selling. "Maybe small entrance fee"

I've thrown a few low offers out, not as low as 1.50 for a 2100 drill press but if I kind of want something but don't really care if I win it or not I will throw a low offer out there. Not trying to waste sellers time, they can either accept, decline, or counter. Some sellers put crazy high prices for BIN hoping someone bites but are willing to accept a lower price. I've scored some pretty good deals by offering a pretty low price and usually if the seller doesn't decline they will counter, sometimes pretty close to my low offer.

It never hurts to ask. ;)

Maybe a typo, missing a few zeros?

I usually get interesting stories attached to low ball offers. One of my favorites: "I need your boat motor to aerate my fish pond. The fish are dying!" My first thought was; why wouldn't he just guy one locally?

I don't get it...? Who'd want a drill press for $2,000 bucks...When I paid $1000 for an old Bridgeport and it's hell of a better drill press lol ...and mills to boot...Good luck with the drill press though...I mean it is nice...I just can't see it...Unless your tight for space...Kevin

It will sell. I use my mill as a drill press too, but in a production setting a drill press works better for drilling.

Really, you have offered someone. 07% of their asking price? Why?
not sure if it was 0.07% but I've offered close
if the asking price was out in the stratosphere and I had an interest....
or just to see if I'd receive a counter offer...

Stuff made of titanium/platinum usually catches my attention....
esp if everything related is made of iron/steel.... *L*

Save yourself the aggrevation and just check the box that says to automatically reject offers <$X.

I like that idea, entrance fee, parking fee, pickup fee, appointment fee...

I low ball a lot of people and sometimes it works.

In October I bought a $60k house for $5 and made them pay the taxes for the year.

It never hurts to make an offer.

Don't take it personal. This forum is home to many members of the something for nothing club. Just think of all of the you ***** the winner would get here if they pulled that score off.
You can always go up in your offer but, never back down, start low.

Personally, I think those best offer listings are desperate to sell and are trolling for money. I've gotten a few things at half to 75% of their buy it now price. It never hurts to try, the worst that can happen is the seller says no.

It goes both ways. I sent an email to an epay car dealer asking if he would take my car in partial trade. Too stuck up to even reply with a no.

I had this same conversation with myself yesterday. I received a $15 offer on a $80 item. I was trying to figure out the reasoning behind it. Instead of counteroffering a penny lower i just declined it. The best reason i could come up with was already mentioned and its the 1 in 100 chance it is accepted. If someone offers $50-$60 then ill send a real counteroffer

I usually list with BO on BIN sales. If the offer is reasonable vs. what I paid for the item, I'll usually accept, ESPECIALLY if I've had it listed for some time. Gotta move the merch. With lots of people looking, but no watchers, you can be sure your price is too high.

I've NEVER had someone accept if I make a counter offer. NEVER. So now, the question is "do I keep relisting, and have my money and space *******, or do I take the offer.

Just this morning I accepted a $30 offer on a $75 BIN. Time to get it out of my space.

If I do offer to buy, I would like at least a response. It is only polite. But then I'm never 1% of BIN....

Yes that's ridiculous.

From the flip side:
There is a drivetrain part I could use in rebuilds.
The guy has one listed (poor description) for about 70% of what it goes for from most vendors. He floats it around; dropping it to 40% of what it goes for.
He has re-listed it over 10 times including for $X with free shipping.
I emailed him off eBay and offered him $2X with free shipping for both (he has a couple.)
He then wants me to add for shipping, and paypal on top of it, even though it's not selling on eBay for exactly what I'm offering.
He just doesn't want to sell apparently.

LMAO, we gotta hear the story to this one :3gears:

Here's the short version. I buy and sell anything including houses. Lady calls and says she heard I bought houses. I said I'm not interested. She calls every week for about a month and a half, finally almost begging me to come look at it. I agree.

1800 sq ft, 4br, 1 bath, vinyl & brick, hardwood floors with a 3 year old 30 year roof with full basement in decent neighborhood. She grew up in the house and her parents passed 8 years ago and it's been vacant since. I spent about an hour picking everything in the house apart down to the possibility of aluminum wire and lead paint.

She said to make her an offer, so I asked what she wanted. She said that she wanted to get out from under the $1200 taxes and thought the house was worth about $60k. I did some quick math and told her what I thought it would cost to get the house back to where it should be and I did not want to put that much into it. She kept telling me to just make an offer, so I did...$5,000. I figured it's piss her off and I'd never hear from her again. I didn't want the house.

She said she would think about it. The next day she called and accepted. Quick closing cost me $250. Told her to meet me at the bank and I'd pay her. While I was counting the money out at the bank I asked if she was going to pay the taxes since she had owned the house most of the year. It caught her off guard and she agreed. I followed her to city hall and watched her pay the taxes.

I had my crew go in, replace 18 windows, furnace, paint, some plumbing, rebuild back porch, refinish floors and add a half bath. I was in at just under $15k in 2 months. Appraisal came in at $62,500. Have a signed contract already for $55,500.

If someone is asking a lot more than I think I am willing to pay, I will low ball expecting a counter to come back at a more realistic price and figure it out from there. I would have gone $20k but she just wanted out.

Now that you mention it, I have never gotten a response to a counter on eBay either. Hmmm...

I've received more low ball offers (and screwball questions) in the past couple years than in the previous ten before that. I chalk it up to smart phones. Everbody has the Ebay app on their phone now and can click off a few offers while they are waiting to pick up the kids from practice.
