... quoted from Beavis & ****-Head.

Picked up a rolling metal workbench for $150 yesterday, 2 hour drive to the middle of nowhere. Very solid, a few drawers inside the two doors, and the casters are solid and have grease fittings. Just what I was looking for.

All the ad said was 'has an attached vise'. On closer inspection it appears to be more than 'just a vise'. It needs a good cleanup but it operates perfectly!

I’d say you did quite well.
One way to look at it is that you scored a free workbench/cabinet. The Starrett vises are among the best.

I can see why the seller claimed 'comes with a vise'. Not only is the vise bolted through the top, but after cleaning it up a bit, its also welded to the top! 3 solid beads on the sides and the back.

Might take some effort to remove if I ever wanted to. Will have to clean it up in place I suppose and use it where it is.

I had what apparently was a desired old vise set up like that. It was welded to a freaking indescribably overbuilt 10 foot long steel table. The table was built out of 8 inch tall I beams, with crazy welded x patterns underneath and the entire 10 foot long top was made of half inch thick steel plate.

The table was so heavy and huge i ended up listing it for free trying to vacate shop space, but my mistake had been taking too good photos of the vise, because i had guys crawling out of the woodwork trying to buy just the vise. Their crestfallen expressions when i said "sure you can take the vise but it comes with that table" were quite amusing. Ultimately someone serious with a car trailer made off with everything

The OP did not ask if he sucked, merely if he had scored. This may be from a lack of knowledge about the value of the vise. How does he not qualify for suckage? I wish someone would explain the suckage rules for the rest of us relative newbies.

I did notice a drop in the barometer when I read that post.

Is there a good resource to see what vices are worth keeping? I've been dragging a few around for years that just take up space with plans on using them when I build a new workbench.

Thanks ! That explains it pretty well. While his deal did cause a brief decrease in atmospheric pressure it did not reach the level of a *********. :lol_hitti
