I'll be the first to say this is wrong. As an 18 year old I walked on a Snap-On truck and had $100 worth of tools replaced by a dealer. I bought something from him, but that was only after he replaced the tools.

Yes, while I agree that SO corporate is a shady outfit, and many of their dealers likewise, I'd have to stop well short of condemning them all!

Ultimately it's the mother ship that's to blame; they could fix the problems if they wanted to...

What happened Merkava?

I tried to get a brand new wrench warranted, and the guy told me to take it back to the distributor I bought it from - not an option if the wrench is from ebay. Did I mention the wrench was new in unused condition - not a scratch on it?

If you bought it from ebay that means someone else bought it first and it is not new.

From the photos you posted in the other link, that wrench looked scratched up to me.

I think you are being very unreasonable.

I couldn't ask for a nicer Snappy guy. Never questions a replacement (and has been known to replace Knipex, Gearwrench and other brands he sells) and always has time to discuss tools, problems or sometimes, politics.

I don't wrench for a living but Brian always offers to come by my office to see me and drop something off or to let me know where he will be if I want to get out of the office and go meet him. He will ALWAYS be exactly where he says he will be. If he is done at that stop, he will wait until I get there.

If you want to try out a tool, no problem. If I need something made up but don't have it with me, no problem. He just hands me the replacement and asks me to bring the old one the next week.

Service like that comes with a price (he sells Snap-on...remember...) but I will always buy tools from him instead of the website. I like being treated like a person and not a number. Brian always calls me by name, has my cell number in his phone, knows the type of tools I'm interested in and always lets me know if a bargain is out there.

He doesn't have a problem making up a tool that you bought used (and has done that) and will be smiling all the way to the bank. Everyone on his route that I have talked to enjoys his visits and he is doing very well in spite of the economy.

Other tool truck guys would do well to follow his example. Service still sells in this world and the customer loyalty and goodwill that he shares is priceless.

If it's seriously flawed then it will break during use and you can have it replaced(just watch your knuckles!). Did you know it was flawed when you bought it?

All mobile Snap-on distributors ****!! :spit:

while I imagine you are joking, ill bite...

my guy showed up at my house on saturday at 7:30am to swap my box. on his day off, WAY outside of his truck route. He could have made me deal with the dealer who services the area my house is located in (rather than the area my dealer services, which is where my shop was), which I know would have been a headache as the local dealer doesnt know me for ****, so im sure he wouldnt have swapped my box.

I understand why your local dealer didnt swap it, you have no history with him. line his pockets and he'll make times like this go smoother. otherwise, take advantage of the great Snap On warranty and send the tool in. let corporate handle it.

That's flat out unreal!! You must be a doctor and saved his only child. Either that, or you're a urologist and fixed his E.D. problem. :D

Merk,

I'm not a doctor or anything special. It's just some of the tool guys like their job and it shows. The other guy that runs the route that I am supposed to deal with is a *****. I am not in Brians's "area" but neither one of us will ever tell..... You would be surprised at the number of guys who "cross the line" and meet Brian in his home area to buy tools.

The first two threads were about the damn wrench - this thread here is a Snap-on distributor bashing thread. :D

But your bashing them due to their refusal to warranty your perfectly functional wrench that you started 2 other threads about, so that ties this one in.

That's total ********. My Snap-on dealer is kick-*** and a stand-up guy. Never once had a problem with warranty, he's even replaced things that (i told him) weren't covered. He's let me return stuff after i've realised i've bought the wrong thing (twice) and let me exchange a set of wrenches i bought off eBay for a set he had on the van.

Does me good deals, lets me pay off my account how and when i want, find me things that normally we don't get over here etc.

If the wrench is new and in perfect condition, then it doesn't NEED to be warrantied.

If it's scratched up and not cosmetically perfect, then you should return it to the guy you bought it from on Ebay.

Seriously Merk- this **** is getting old.

Mine too! Just today he was in, and I asked him about a A/C valve core tool I broke a couple weeks ago. He said he was still having trouble getting a warranty replacement from SO (not entirely sure why). I shrugged it off, but then I brought up an old pair of ****** blue point wire stripping pliers that I wanted to replace. I physically showed him that they didnt strip AT ALL anymore and told him about the set of strippers I wanted. He grabbed a set off the truck and I jokingly asked him what kind of a trade in deal I can get on my old pliers. He gave me $20 for them, off a $25 set of strippers. He genuinely felt bad about not being able to get me a replacement tool.

I thought it was a classic case of him going out of his way to make me happy.

The wrench is defective - it's box end is broached off center. I admit I hold Snap-on tools to a high standard, but I figure with the amount of money they're charging for their tools, they should be perfect.

I dont think its fair to talk about the money they charge in this situation, because you did buy it second hand.

So you're saying you don't care if Snap-on tools are defective as long as they're cheap enough?

I guess, yes. I value and buy my SO tools for one reason. I trust them. I take care of them the best I can, but at the end of the day, they are there for work.

You however, seem to collect them, so we are completely different.

I just dont think its fair to complain about the cost from the factory of something if you buy it second hand. If someone can show me how it is, by all means, please do.

EDIT: Maybe thats why someone was selling it second hand in the first place?

I have great dealers and can't complain. They would easily just swap that wrench and not give it a second thought. Merk, why not buy the wrench from the SO site and return the defective for a refund.

Regardless of what he paid for the wrench, QC is what is in question.

Merk,

Did you ever think the guy that sold you the wrench was just as **** about them as you are? I can hear him now...."The Snappy driver thinks I'm crazy and won't replace it so i'll just sell this wrench on Ebay to someone who won't notice that it is broached 3/10,000's off center and then go buy myself a GOOD Sears pro...."

:)

Wrong, wrong, wrong. My Snap-on dealer is the best. He's always pleasant, never pushy, usually offers a discount on items sold COD and always asks if anything needs to be replaced under warranty.

I have been out of the automotive business for a dozen years. I'm no longer in his sales territory. This dealer is happy to let me stop by his house on the weekend to buy tools, or just warranty a tool.

Again, my Snap-on dealer is the best.

Somebody just needs to forget eBay exists, and take their mics on the tool truck and buy their wrenches there. That way, only one poor soul is tortured (the Snap-On guy), instead of the rest of us poor illegitimate children...

I suppose he checks the barrel of flashlights with a cylinder bore gauge prior to purchase, just to make sure they're not out of round by more than .001". Nope, wait - he didn't buy the bore gauge because the wooden case had an out-of-round knot on the front.

LOL!!!!

I used to drink beer with mine on his truck. The more we drank the more I spent. Kinda like Vegas huh. I still thought he was a blow hard *** hole.

This thread reminds me of when I was a really little kid back in the mid-80's and we used to visit the MAC guy @ his house on the weekends and he'd let me swim in his pool while him and my dad had drinks then went on the truck in his back yard. :D As for Snap-On, my current dealer for the last few years is great, and will warranty anything I hand him weather it came from him or not. I've even seen him go to shops he hasn't been to before and who are two man operations and the FIRST thing he asks them despite never seeing them before is if they have any broken tools they'd like replaced. He'll even replace tools that have lost their luster and are too ugly to look at for tool weirdos like me. He has all kinds of games and raffles on his truck too and one time I even won a nice 4-drawer Blue-Point cart completely filled up with tools, as well as jackets and the normal truck prizes. Then he let me trade in all the blue-point tools in it for S/O stuff :bounce: I didn't win these next ones but he's also given away a Snap-On motorcycle, Different Boxes, televisions and lots of other stuff too even a raffle for a huge Glo-Mad box and riser. This is what keeps me buying from him too though which I gladly do. I've had one other great S/O dealer way back but the two guys between them were complete duds who I wouldn't buy from. My Matco, SK, and Mac guys are really nice guys too, but unfortunately don't come around much anymore since I got my S/O boxes a while back. Can't really blame them though since they know I prefer s/o items.
