Holy Cow!!!

We must have two of two of the greatest Concrete Contractor in the world here. That and a bunch of other guys with serious concrete experience.

These builds give me a whole new prespective on concrete; this build, LLWillysfan build on the other end of the Continent, LCG build in Guadalajara, Mexico, hotrod's house in Trinidad and abstamaria Modern Garage.

I've got a name for you. How about the 'freakin awesome garage'. The concrete work is impressive, as is the framing. On top of all that, you're buying used materials and saving money. Always great to see a pro at work. Really looking forward to the rest of the build.

Quick question

How are you going to use the raised ledge on the right in this picture?

It looks like it is about six fett off the garage floor.

Quick question

It looks like it is about six fett off the garage floor.

That raised are is going to be like a mezzanine, it is located under the covered porch, that runs the length of the building. I will have a compressor room at one end of it, the other end will have shelving for storage, and the rest will be storage for toys, snowmobiles, wave runners etc, in the off seasons.

This area is accessible via a 12'-0" opening that I plan on installing a roll up door on. The covered porch deck will be wood framed, with a concrete slab over it which will seal it off from the outside. This area is approximately 6'-0"x 72'-0" in length

The two options for getting up and down that I am currently weighing are: a forklift for moving the toys or a lift table that is recessed into the slab floor, I am leaning towards the table, if it all works out.

Ready for roofing.
IMG_1590.jpg

My neighbor grew up with a guy that owns a commercial roofing company. They let me purchase the material at cost. That saved me thousands on material. Then he had his guys come over on the weekend as a side job for them. I paid them $ 1600 for less than 2 days' work. 3 guys busted this roof out. it's an 8/12 pitch which isn't fun to roof. I roofed entire roof on the house that has the same pitch. Not going to do that again!

Looks good. Those tall trusses are a pain in the *** to move out. What's the game plan for the guy in the middle?

LD the plan, depending on the amount of help that shows, is to nail some long 2x4s flat on top of the stack of trusses over to the gable truss that will be stood up, and set a plank down the middle of the building so the middle guys job is to keep the truss vertical while the guys on the ends slide the truss across the top plate. The flat 2x4s sag and give a good amount of pressure down on top of the truss as you move it, helping to keep it steady, then as its in its final place you nail it to that 2x4.

Sounds like a good plan! And i hope this weather holds for us! I would love to be working on a project like that right now. All i've been doing is dirty night club reno's:sad:

Rockery
Existing Rockery. Rockery is an art. I have seen so many rockeries that don't look good. There is no one in my area that can do rockeries worth a damn. I was on a project 3 hours north of home for about a year. We had a rock wall that needed to be constructed. Thats where I met Craig, the contractor brought him in to build the walls. He had an eye for this, pick up a rock, spin it around, drop it, pick it up and place it. He was very fast. As it turns out Craigs dad had a property less than a mile from me, and that's where he stores his equipment. So he came over and built this original wall for me, before I built the house.
IMG_1692.jpg

Flash forwards several years; I need the shop rock walls built. After I sourced the rock, my next call was to Craig. Unfortunately due to the previous downturn in the economy, he had sold his equipment. He agreed to do the wall if I provided the machine.
Rock deliveries:
IMG_1702.jpg
It took a long time to source these rocks. Most the rock in the area is a softer rock that does not hold up well to the elements. Found this they had to truck it from about an hour away. around 40 tons of rock, about $ 3500 for 3 loads delivered.

Re: new construction (yet unnamed)

What is the story with the site? It seems like the berm to the left of the building could have been cut down - was it a desire to have the building buried or a restriction based on something else?

Love the style and the clever reuse !

Whoa, how did I miss this build. Truly amazing and spectacular.

Once you figure out a name, let me or another Mod know and we can easily change it for you.

Radix, my property slopes from the house at the bottom, up to the road. Due to the size of the building i wanted as much of it hidden from the street as possible. The height of the building from the lower slab is 36'-0" tall. As i am building as large of a building that i could fit on my property, it was important to me that it also fits in the area. I could have built a much smaller building without building into the slope. But that's not how i roll.:pimpflash haha. As i designed and built it you can only see the upper story from the road, and with the covered porch across that side it should have pretty nice curb appeal. the true height of the building is really only noticeable pulling into my driveway. I have a neighbor that built an A frame type "cabin" that is about the same height and it looks HIDEOUS from the road. Besides if i hadn't have built it into the hillside, i couldn't have built my top-secret underground, bunker/root cellar/wine cellar/lair........hahaha in my most evil laugh....no seriously.....oops did i say that out-loud?:FIREdevil

I ordered some custom windows to match the roof pitch for the upstairs room in the truss loft/unit. One for each side of the French doors.

View from inside of the loft. this is a nice window wall view.

Re: new construction (yet unnamed)

I scored these off of a project, The owner didn't like the small windows, they were kind of a weird application, so I got them. they are 14.5" x 14.5" so they fit right in the stud bays. They are about 7' off the unit floor. this allows tons of light, and you can't see the house, you are looking over the top of it into the sky and trees.

Stance like a tank! People will think twice trying to steal from you!

The shop looks great! I see you sheeted the gable ends before lifting them. Smart move!
