Re: new construction (yet unnamed)

So since the roof has been done, and the hot weather, I find myself at the lake a lot. I thought i would share a few photos of the area. The big lake is about a 5 minute walk from the house. I hope you enjoy these.IMG_1574.JPG

Re: new construction (yet unnamed)

Not a lot of progress on the new build. I went on a vacation to Disneyland with the girlfriend, got to finally met her daughter (she works at the park). Then since i got home i have kinda been playing a bit. I had planned on pouring the covered porch slab, but the rock delivery guy dumped a load of rock where the concrete truck needs to go. That will be moved this weekend as the rock wall builder will be here! I have taken the last couple of days to do some maintenance/cleaning up around the house. the last 3 days have been spent in my existing attached 24x32 garage cleaning it up/out. it appears a bomb might of went off in there???
With all the activity on the new building it ended up being a dumping ground for everything. I couldn't even walk in there. Since i got it cleaned up i thought i would share some photos of the existing garage. When the new shop is complete this garage will be emptied of everything, and i will be finally able to park in it!:3gears:
Here we go:

I can't clean the garage without giving the girls a bath.

After seeing the scope of your project and the progress, I'd say it's some much-deserved playtime on the water. Lake Kachess, right? Where are all the other people? With the crazy hot weather we've been having, I'd expect it to be way more crowded!

I've biked the downhill trails at Central briefly many, many years ago for a short day that ended when gf at the time had a spectacular over the bars dismount. Are there some good cross country trails up in that area?

Haven't commented much, but I'm loving the build and looking forward to the next post(s,) be it construction or scenery.

Pluribus, thanks for the comments! your right on the lake. The most beautiful one in the state. There is never more then a couple boats on my end of the lake. Fortunately the "Red-Neck boat launch" is right down the road from me and is very difficult use, that keeps most people away! As far as biking, there are so many trails/areas around here its amazing.

Pluribus, I spent a year working on a project up in your county. Out in Concrete, overseeing the rebuilding of a fish trap facility on the Baker River. Rented a nice place on the Skagit River. Beautiful country, a lot wetter then here.

You're probably familiar with the term, rainshadow, to describe parts of Sequim, the San Juans, and Anacortes, right? Well I like to say I'm in a rain footprint! :lol_hitti Even though I'm not too far out from I-5, local conditions/topography make it really wet here. A while back, I looked at some property in your neck of the woods, but my place here was by far the best bang for the buck. Did you get to check out the Baker Lake area while working up this way? On clear days, you're looking right up at both Baker and Shuksan from the lake. Even though I'm up here now, I still head down to play in the I-90 corridor from time to time. Lots of great stuff to do there!

As for a name for your build, "Playstation" popped into my mind...so many toys.

I did get to spend time at baker lake, it's beautiful, since I was working with PSE I got into some pretty neat restricted areas. Also got to do a lot of snowmobiling on Mt. Baker, that's an incredible Mt.

I do like that name, might try and incorporate it somehow.

Nice work with the excavator! I have a lot of respect for people who can safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment!

INCREDIBLE is the word :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Craig, the guy that did my rock hasn't done a rock wall in a few years. His business went under in 09 with the rest of the economy and he hasn't done a rock wall since. He did my other wall in about 08, I haven't found anybody that comes close to the work he does. I had to beg and plead with him to come and do it, I had to rent the equipment too, as he had sold his.
He was pleased with it too. He had told me after it was done that it had been so long he was nervous about doing a good job. Great Job Craig. Thanks

I like the large stone work.

Me too, more every day i look at it.

Awesome work if I must say so.

Thanks! It did turn out awesome. It takes a real eye to be able to place rock so well, I have seen may walls that didn't look very good.

Re: new construction (yet unnamed)

Thanks for all the comments.

Its been kinda slow around here, so I am going to post some details of some anchors i cast in place while i was placing concrete. The first ones are a halfin brand, they can be used to hang anything, they are made for securing structural attachments in commercial concrete. They are hella strong I could probably hoist a car off them.

These anchors have either a nelson stud welded to the back of them or a T shaped bracket that gets consolidated in the concrete.
They come pre-drilled for screws and filled with a foam to keep concrete out of the rail.
a photo of some installed,

I placed these 4' on center about 6' off of the finished floor.

Finished install with t bolt

Another anchor point I placed around is called a threaded insert.
threadedinserts.jpg

There is a threaded plastic cap that gets nailed to the form where you want these, and you place a length of rebar through the loop for superior holding ability. Anchor after form is stripped.IMG_1887.jpg

removing the cap.

The finished hole/anchor.

Anchor ready to use. I used anchors for 1/2" threaded rod/bolts.

I hope someone finds this useful.

Re: new construction (yet unnamed)

I really like the anchor idea, what is your plan for them?

I really have no particular plan, I just know they'll be useful. Being as though that particular wall is concrete so high up, I can use them to hang cabinets, tire racks, really anything. I can also use them for winch points if I need to pull or straighten something. I have peen packing these around for about 12 years now, with the intention of using them. Finally got the chance.

Thanks for the comments.

Those anchors are awesome, glad you posted them up. How expensive are those and where would you find them ?

Congrats on figuring out a name for the place.

These anchors can be found at most concrete form/accessory suppliers or even general construction suppliers. In the northwest we have companies such as Masco, Williams Engineering and Acme supply. Prices are going to vary by size, the threaded anchor's are usually only a couple bucks each, but are well worth it.

Congrats on figuring out a name for the place.
Thanks! A few members gave me some suggestions.

That looked like a great piece of property to begin with, this addition puts it well over the top! Great work and resourcefulness in finding great deals on materials. The concrete work is fantastic sir.

Been slow around the project. installing some hold-downs. A special thanks to my engineer for requiring hard to find products that no-one carries any more,
1-1/4"threaded hold down rod, and hold downs that require 5- 1" bolts per hold down. Thanks alot.:willy_nil:willy_nil:willy_nil
