Build some custom fire extinguisher holders. I did not like them hanging on the wall. Might paint the trim red so they stand out a little more.

Picture of the back. I plan to put an electrical outlet and air line out back so if I need to sand blast something the mess stays behind the garage.

Hey, rain or no rain, you're making progress!

What is that tool on the sawhorses? It looks like a very long sheet metal brake; yes?

The red wheeled cart is also something that has me scratching my head; what is that?

Yes that is a metal brake on the sawhorses. The red cart is a "lubester" it is for pulling gas out of a tank and then you crank the handle in the opposite direction to put the gas back in. It is from the 60s and was a gift from a frient to help motivate me. He did all of the custom lettering and painting you see.

I thought it was pretty cool.

What type of roofing are you using? I really like your garage and can see one similar in my field someday for my car shop so I can have my motorcycle shop back.

Thanks,
Jeremy

the pitch is 1.75 so options are limited. I have roll roofing on it for now with ice and water shield under the entire thing. In the future I plan on either rubber or metal. Put the roll on since it was fast and it was beginning to get cold.

Update. I am finally ready for power to my shop. Long story I really have been ready since January. Between engineers and red tape it has been a process. Well the latest was meeting with the engineer in March to discuss details. We agreed that he would need to take a few trees down. Neighbor, Engineer and Myself all agreed on what was going to be "selectively cut" Engineers words not mine. We signed all necessary paperwork. Told that work would be completed in 6 weeks. Well I call at the middle of May past the 6 week mark and ask. Oh I forgot! we will get right on it. Well in the haste I assume that communication was not made on what trees to cut. So I show up and am left with this. I am then told that the final cleanup is up to me.

I am now working with the Chief Engineer and am waiting to see next steps by them. Oh and I still am waiting on power.

3 or 4 trees grows to 17 to 20 trees. Some were 40+ year old.

Finally won the battle with Duke Power. We have lights finally. Outside is finished and now just have to paint. Inside is coming along nicely. Drywall up just needs mud. Compressor room and air lines complete. Slow but steady.

Door on left is a hallway. Door on right is a sound proof compressor room. Double wall construction. Double ceiling, r19 on all walls. 2 layers of drywall with sound glue between. Double ceiling with acoustical tiles. Acoustical panels on walls. Pretty quiet in there. Put a oil less compressor in there and you can talk in a normal voice outside the room and barely hear it run. Cant wait until the big compressor goes in that is much much quieter.

Nice place but I wish you had more pictures of it as it was being built.

One question about your compressor room. It appears that you have taken great strides to keep it quiet but does it have a way to draw fresh air ?

yes on the back wall there are two vents. One at floor level and one at ceiling height to allow the air to cycle. We also have a fan to help draw air in if we need it. We are goning to give it a run first w/o fan to make sure that the temps dont get too high. We set it up with the help of a friend that makes home teaters. This room was build sort of like a AV component closet. We shall see how it works.

Hope this helps.

Painted office a graphite color. Lowes mix error. 5 bucks per gallon

Love this colour, it's exactly what I'm going for once I get around to painting my place. Did you just luck out when you found this mix error? Thinking I may have to keep an eye on my local Lowes for this kind of bargain.

Also, this is a lovely place. Packed full of so much character for a small building. I think it's going to age very, very well.

Yes I lucked out. And got two gallons for 10 bucks. It appears that Lowes cant mix very well. They always have a ton of error paint mostly grey and a lot of wierd pinks. Didnt think pink was a good color for the garage :)

We are using a mostly grey color pallet. I should have called this place 50 shades of grey.:lol_hitti

I would love to do white epoxy on the floor but may go with VCT. The white tiles seem to have specks of grey.

Thanks

Looks great! What a cool idea. I am sure you are going to enjoy working in that space, when it is complete.

Is that grid pattern on the ceiling just an architectural detail? Or some other purpose? I like it either way...just don't think I've seen anything like that before.

To make the porch w/o posts we had to cantilever the joists. To go out 4 feet we had to back 12 feet. You can see the framing in the pictures.

Shop coming along nicely! When you get into the Linc you will find there are 14 relays to operate the top(if I remember right). What you want to look at is the wiring that runs thru the top padding. We had one years ago that had a mind of its own, the wiring had broken where it folds when the top is put up or down. Sometimes the top would work, sometimes not, just would depend if the wires were touching. Later, Jeff

We made the roof appear flat by enclosing 3 sides. Trusses run from front to back at a very low pitch. Hopefully these photos will help.

I know there are a ton of them. I have been reading the service manual and the factory top repair manual. Fortunately my father is in AACA and has a large network. He has put me in contact with several guys I can call if I get stumped. I am not looking forward to the top and may just pay someone to go thru it and repair/replace anything they find.

I don't know how I missed this thread, and I have to say.....Your garage is cool as ****!!!! I love the looks of the dark gray wall along with how you did the ceiling in this pic!!! As far as looking like an old gas station, you nailed it perfect.

What's the plans for the Continental? Completely stock, or dress it up some? My dad used to drive the Lincolns and he had a '61 and a '63 all in triple black. If you are going to stray away from being totally stock, I'd start with the wheels and do away with those hubcaps. They just don't do a Lincoln Continental the justice it deserves.

And just to repeat myself, your garage looks fantastic!!!!!

Sweet design.... Since I grew up with a red rag in my back pocket in one of these old stations, this sure brings back some old memories. :rocker:

I would suggest Balloon framing for a false front.. We did conventional framing and had some issues with movement on the side walls. Hind sight is 20/20 and would have done Balloon framing if we had to do it again.

Give me a shout if you want to bounce ideas off of me.

We are pretty happy with the way it turned out and no leaks thank god!

Your house is pretty bad a$$ as well. I have been watching the progress and cannot wait to see it finished. Concrete is one of those things I would love to learn.

We poured the sidewalks ouselves to see if we could pour our own floor. Answer was no way. Pay and have it done right. The contractor made the floor smooth as glass we are very happy with it. He has been in business for 40 years and charged us about $1.25 per square foot if we paid for the concrete. After he was done I paid him a big fat tip.

Love the whole project, and the ceiling looks fantastic. The wife wants me to steal that look for our bedroom renovation.
