Very cool project. I'm watching with heavy interest as my wife wants to get one of these older vans to sell her bakery goods out of.

Dirty work but someones gotta do it. I did find out some good news today. The gm/eaton rearend has 10 pinion teeth and 39 ring gear teeth. So that gives me a ?.?? Gear ratio. Thats right a 3.90!!!! IMO the perfect match for my 700R4 trans I'm gonna run. That's all for tonight.

I've been doing a bunch of research and I've determined that this frame is a 1960 to 1962 Chevorlet 1/2 ton truck frame. The length of this frame is a little over thirteen feet bumper bracket to bumper bracket. The body is exactly thirteen feet long!!!! This thing is short!! From what I've read the torsion bar front end was done away with in 63 because of the cost of production. The rear ring gear was stamped 1962 GM. I was told this was a 63 when I bought it but I'm starting to think it's a 62. Unless they used left over parts to build these. Apparently the bodies were made by The Union City Body co. And this one has a decent amount of rust in it but nothing too far gone. Most of the rust is in the lower 4 inches of the box. Anybody have a 60-62 Chevy short bed truck? Is it torsion bar. Approx how long is the frame?

I'm guessing when they made them they used whatever was lying around. I'm sure they didn't spend alot of R&D time on them.

I saw all the build pics of ^^^^ a while back. Never seen an inside finished pic. That is the exact same body (or was the exact same) as mine. I think this body style was only around for two or three years. Not sure how I feel about the flat top.

millsupply.com has parts for step vans. Except I do not remember that model in the catalog.
