I'm also looking for something smaller, brighter the better. I'll be watching to see what everyone is using.

I found a dealer on eBay back in 2010 clearing out a lot of Loews Portfolio brand LED sticks. They are all LED with a bluish tint. Price was only around $4/stick. Problem is we had several fail within a very short amount of time. Seller made it right and replaced quickly. We are still using them today in kitchen and utility room. The premature failure maybe why they were clearancing them.

Good product otherwise; cheap price, no external transformer, and they came in various lengths and would connect them together to have continous light tube

I used this stuff for under and above the cabinets.

http://www.environmentallights.com/EnvironmentalLights-High-Brightness-Premium_C385.aspx

They have lengths from 3" to 48".

Yes they are stupid expensive, but very nice extruded aluminum housings and quality hardware and accessories.

Also to pick the lengths for under the cabinets, I just went with long enough to approximate the under cabinet space leaving room for any required connections. So while the length under each cabinet is not necessarily the same proportion, they all fit easily and there is plenty of light.

For my gun safe I bought a few rolls of 15' LED's... cut to size and wired a switch inline. I think this is the same thing that I am going to do under my cabinets in the garage. This is, however, a DIY project and not screw and plug in.

You can go for LED strip they have the ability to be cut for specific length, and also have many other advantages like low profile and energy efficient.

you can also use LED Puck lights, they are individual lights, you can arrange them as you need, and also gain all the benefits of LED technology.

Maybe search using the terms "curio cabinet lighting".

A few years ago I redid my rifle cabinets and my civil war/TX revolution/projectile points displays and found a ton of high quality LED light bars designed for clean and hidden installs.

I ended up going with GE stuff in multiple lengths.
