Has anyone developed a method of storing stuff in a tray or similar on a cheap spring loaded hinge under a cabinet of shelf, similar to those (high end) under cabinet kitchen knife or cook book storage systems.
If so how did you do it and have you got any pics.
I'm trying to develop some ideas and am looking for input.

The under the cabinet knife storage system looks like it uses a 4-bar linkage style hinge but I can't seem to find one online.

I found a drop down tool tray in Google Books. Looks promising for under the cabinet storage. Check out the image below and see if this would be helpful... lt looks like a wooden tray with a piano hinge and a chain...

I've trawled the net myself, but was unable to find the under cabinet kitchen knife / cook book four bar hinges for sale anywhere. I even e-mailed a hinge manufacturer and he didn't sell them or know where I could buy them.
The drop down tray in the picture looks like a good alternative and can probably provide a bit more storage than the four bar set up. The advantage of the four bar set up is that it would swing out from under the shelf. But this looks like a workable solution.
I have multiple locations in my small garage for such a tray say 13" square by about 3 - 3.5 inches deep. I'm ok with the hinging but will need to find some kind of locking mechanism. Maybe a simple dead, something a bit more substantial than shown in the pic. Watch this space.....but not too closely....I'm a slow worker.
