^ ^ ^ Great choice OP. That is LIFETIME solution that you'll never have to worry about.

Bury it DEEP and don't forget to backfill some dirt, then add the yellow copper tracer wire. That way the buried plastic can be located later.

Trench is dug to 18"......depending how tall the riser ends up being, I might need to trim out a few more inches

It is going from the meter right down the foundation to the patio

The overall project was very smooth, minus buying two different cutters that DID NOT make a square, flush cut

The chamfer tool with the gauge worked great and everything went together nicely

Checked for leaks and nada.......used some plumbers putty around the hole I had to make in the patio, to seal and secure it up nicely. There is a tall wooden shelving units covering up this corner of the patio anyways

Now have two valves, one on the meter and one inside the patio

Best of all, no leaks

Time to grill

What can I use to paint the meter and all pipes (especially the new ones I installed today off the meter.......some sort of grey epoxy?

I later used a stick of plumbers putty around the pipe coming into the patio......filled in the gap around the pipe and held it nice and secure

I was told the polyethylene pipe wasn't allowed to come up out of the ground exposed. Is that piece going up into the patio going to be covered with dirt?

Just curious why you didn't use a riser on both ends?

OP . . since you didn't use riser on the end that goes up into patio, you really should do something to protect the portion from bottom of trench up to patio.

I'd cut Sch 80 pvc pipe in half (like 2") and clamp/glue back together on both sides of your yellow pipe above trench. You don't want next homeowner planting flowerbed along house and taking sharpshooter to the gas line !! ;)

Protection from what?!?

I plan on living here for a long, long time

Other than protecting it from human error, what need is there to protect the transition, that is inside, and completely covered under the patio

I read the main issue of bringing MDPE out of the ground is it has poor UV protection. It looks like yours wont see any sunlight, so Id run it.

Poly pipe was in there FOR YEARS before, with a very thin wall and PLASTIC fittings, never had an issue

The PO did not use risers or transitions either, still worked perfectly

Cold weather is not a concern

To help protect the stem transition, I found a small scrape piece of 1-1/2" schedule 40 PVC

Cut to length, cut in half and secured it around the 14" of exposed yellow mdpe

More to protection from critters if they decide to chew on it, since it won't see any daylight
