Ok have to run a gas line to my 500 gl tank this weekend (if the rain would ever stop). Been running on 100# bottles, get sick of dragging them to work to fill. I came across some copper when cleaning out my buddies shed that will work, but I'm about 15' short. What's the correct way to make a splice underground on flex copper?

Yep nevermind, went ahead and bought new 3/8 copper to do the whole run. No underground splices. It was only an extra $25. Told myself to quit being a tight ***.

Job done, digging by hand *****, just fired up the furnace, ready for cold weather now!!!

A flare or compression fitting would have worked. I don't know for sure that is to "code" though, but I don't see why it wouldn't be.

A flare is the proper way. I don't think compression fittings are allowed for propane. -MATT

Matt`s right a compression fitting on an LP line is generally frowned upon, especially with annealed tube. Flares are ok but i would braze it if a connection was needed.

Good job just getting a new piece.

Cost you maybe $20 more than installing flare connector?

Might have saved you the cost of a full tank of propane leaking out. Money well spent.

The guy that plumbed my heater yesterday ran a 1/2" copper tube to the black pipe on my shed. Said it was under 100' and 1/2 would work fine, but also made the comment that here in WI, no splices underground.
