I am adding a bedroom onto my house, 20x24. It is exactly over the top of the PVC conduit I ran out to my shop, 18" deep. The sides of my monopour slab are supposed to be 18" deep as well. Is it against code to leave the conduit in place and pour over the top?

I'd put a larger piece of conduit or ABS cut in half lengthwise over the conduit where the 18" sections will be - just to keep any future chaffing from happening if things settle a little.

No problem having conduit under the slab. I would be a bit concerned about the sides that would be on or almost on the conduit. I think I would expose the conduit for a few feet and lower it so there was a few inches between the conduit and the concrete. And/or put a few inches of soil in a small area over the conduit and raise the bottom of the concrete in that area slightly. Don't want the slab settling and mashing the conduit.

The OP asked if it was against code. My answer was in response to that.
What is the code that it is against? I ask because I would like to find a way not to have to relocated my shop power. For instance, if I lowered it, or sleeved it would it then be compliant. This project is getting inspected for everything, so it's not like I can just do whatever I please. I have asked several local guys and I get yes/no answers from them all, but no real firm answer on what to do to make it code compliant.

thanks,

It's not against any code. Your question was if it was against code. The answer is no. But, to be totally sure, you need to ask the inspector because there may be an amendment.

When the foundation pit for my elevator was dug, a tube was found to be running through the hole. We could no determine where the tube started or ended, it looked like a 4" pipe and was not a drain from this house or my neighbor.

The inspector told us to wrap it in plastic and pour the needed concrete.
