My wife got me a HF unit for Christmas. It holds 20 gallons I think, I would never have bought it for myself. I love it. I've yet to fill it but when it is full it hooks up to the compressor and pumps itself out. Wicked cool!

I have the 8 gallon lisle and it is a nicely made product but I don't like emptying it. You have to remove the tall tube and funnel to be able to pour the oil out and in they are messy and drip oil everywhere. I want to upgrade to one that pumps the oil out. Either that or I have thought about rigging up some contraption to drain the oil straight into my 275 gallon used oil container in the corner of my shop.

I bought one off eBay that was 99.95 shipped to my door. I am impressed with it and I'm probably going to buy another. image.jpg

20 gallon portable waste oil tank. Just hook shop air up to it and it evacuates all the oil into whatever container you're putting it in.

I put the waste oil container on my gearbox jack, with a big funnel in it, works great. Originally I had intended to buy one too, but (though I don't know how big your garage is) it saves me having another big tool on wheels to worry about storing. Just a thought, may not be relevant to you.

I use the real oil type drum with a pipe and funnel. The recycler comes in a **** truck with the right threads for the drum and ***** it all out. Hands me 90 bucks for a 30gal drum. I have it on a drum dolly.

Same here. One of the best $100 I've spent.

The eBay one shown in this thread looks very much like mine from HF. I've been well pleased.

One important note of caution. When evacuating with air pressure, be careful. It's hard to stop once you start it. (Don't ask how I know...arg) I added another 1/4 turn valve as a bleeder so I can stop the flow when emptying. I can post a pic if wanted.

+1! On the HF 20 gallon one. I love the thing. I keep 3 or 4 old five gallon jugs to pump the oil into to take to the recycling center once or twice a year.

+1 on having to learn a technique to shut the oil flow quickly.

I shut off the air when the jug is a couple inches below full. If it looks like it will flow over I open the big valve in the neck and it stops the flow instantly.

Just as Matt M, PA and Shasowdog500 have pointed out, you need to be able to control or learn a technique when transferring the waste oil. Like Matt, I added a shut off valve.

I have a valve for both in and to blow off extra pressure. Used a "T" on "output" side.

I just finished the install of my 2 post and picked up on of the the 20 gal harbor freights last week. I haven't assembled yet but plan on adding the shut off valve as mentioned above. What pressure is working for the evacuation process. ?.

I was in a hurry, wanted on right away and I really don't do many oil changes. My dump is in another building, I take a pail over on occasion and in the winter simply toss a little in the stove with used coffee cups if I can remember.
It telescopes with a T handle set screw.
I have a screen that sits on it, one of these days gong to frame a screen over it but we have a place it pushes in out of the way and it perfect.
I had to chop saw a couple times to get the ideal height.

My air lines are around 100 PSI and I just plug it right in.

There is a built in regulator on the drain tank is set to the proper pressure, which I believe is under 10PSI.

The hf one is junk compared to real oil drains. Used Many versions and the hf one is the worst, most good ones cost over 250. The caster and base design is much better. Hf ones leak, casters **** and are top heavy

I have the 8 gallon Lisle one and I'm very happy with it.

To empty it is really complicated though. You have to remove the drain tube and pour it out. :bounce ::D

I've had my HF model about 4 years and it hasn't leaked at all. It appears well made to me, and holds up well. The powder coat holds up exceptionally well it still looks brand new even though I dump brake fluid in it after vacuum bleeding my brakes.

Have welded two separate ones for leaking out bottom of a weld pinhole when they were brand new

Do you guys use those things? Mine hasn't been that clean since it came out of the box. :bounce:
I might have to try one of those valves on mine.

I use mine often.....and so far it's one of my best HF purchases. (I buy very little there anyhow) Works very well. The pic of the valve was taken when it was almost new...but it's still in great shape.

Guess I've been lucky.
This is the first complaint on this I've seen anywhere on this 20 gallon drain tank.

Any one else here get a leaky one??

Tom,

I've used this 5 gallon model from HF for about 9 years w/no problems. IIRC, when on sale it was under $30 w/a coupon. There's a pic of it in my shop by the A/C register in the far left corner.

http://www.harborfreight.com/5-gallon-oil-drain-dolly-90582.html

The first one I had (when I had a 4 post lift) was a orange HD 5 gallon bucket on casters w/a funnel stuck in a piece of pipe (see photo).

Will

I got one of these with my garage
http://www.balcrank.com/used_oil/roughneck-ii/

It's great except that the capacity is way too much compared to the container I have for taking the used oil up to the recycle place (Autozone or wherever) which is 14qts. I ended up with a nice mess the first time I tried to drain it... Killed air going in but failed to remmeber that I had created a pressurized air tank. I like the idea some have had of a second "deppresure" valve rather than my current method of just yanking the air hose.
