Id like to find a vintage set of these locally if possible, chances are Im not going to be able to do that but Id like to try.

Is there a more known keyword I should be using either for Craigslist or E-bay that might help?

Does anyone here have any experience with these particular units, I know there prob. isnt much Harbor Freight could have screwed up with these but maybe there is something in their particular design that would make me wish I had looked elsewhere?

Also do these ever come on sale or is there a particular coupon I may wish to start looking for? Seem cheap enough already but its worth asking.

What makes one better than another? Things I should look for?

Maybe id be better off with this style?

Just trying to support exhaust systems but Im sure I could come up with other uses if I had the set.

This one looks convenient?

I've got those HF stands and they aren't bad. My only real beef with them is the handles are so long they tend to bang on stuff under the car. Great for holding things up and giving a sense of security under the hitch when my F350 is on the lift. I have no illusions that they would stop a falling truck but it might buy me a few seconds to escape!

I'd probably buy the devil I know over the devil I don't. If I was going to buy random chinese made stands I'd get ones from Harbor Freight rather than some eBay ones. I do believe they do some weeding out of the ****.

Id like to buy quality stands, wouldnt care if they were double the price, just do not know the differences to look out for in a quality stand, I read some stands use a roller bearing at the cap end and some do not mention this as an instance.

I went with these from Greg Smith Equipment for $55 each.

They also carry the 2-ton ones like HF for $65. I went with the single post 1,500 lbs stands as I find the larger ones to awkward to work around. Greg Smith also carries the 1,500 lb stand with a foot pedal that will raise the stand 2 inches or so by stepping on it. Which is good when trying to line up control arms and such but I think I would wreck my shins on them too often even folded up.

I bought 3 HF ones around 3 years ago using a coupon from a Hemmings car magazine in the $50's range. I have a 2 post lift and I balance the vehicles always checking them close to the floor before lifting. I use them for extra protection.

You will find yourself working around the HF style. For that reason the single pole style is advantageous in my opinion. Also I only use these things to hold parts during installs or repair. Like subframe, exhaust, suspension or axle but NEVER an entire vehicle.

+1. I have a pair of these for additional support of longer vehicles like my friend's F-250. They are very study and well worth the price.

I just went ahead with these, Harbor freight does make some decent stuff I know but I just thought Id like to try these and hope for maybe a bit of a higher quality piece.

I also have cutsomers coming into my shop regularily and Harbor freight dosent have the best rep for quality stuff and I dont want that to be a reflection of the type of service I give. Thanks to all that responded.
