Unfinished Garage Wall Question

Hi guys, Excellent site! I'm getting quite a few good ideas for my garage here but I have a question that needs answered before I can really start on anything.

My attached garage is unfinished and I plan on adding some extra electrical outlets and insulation. That aside, one wall (opposite the interior house wall) has two diagonal tie braces.

Should I install 1x's horizontally to attach the drywall to or use plywood/osb sheets for better anchor points for future cabinetry, etc.

BTW, just an average homeowner, so just general purpose tools and stuff.

Thanks! Sliptream67

I can't help with how to address the diagonals, but I can tell you that in most states code requires that the wall that's shared with the house have drywall on it, rated for a particular fire resistance. I'd check your local regulations before you do anything to that wall that you might have to tear down if an inspector comes for something else, or if you decide to sell the place.

Jack is right. A good place for you to start would be HERE. Then a quick call to your local building department and ask them a few questions. Good luck.
