I’ve finally gotten stumped by a garage sale purchase this weekend. Picked up a few box lots of old craftsman and some other brands, and the seller offered me a box of machinists tools. I saw a Starrett and Lufkin micrometer so naturally I jumped at it. This was also in the box and I have legitimately no idea what this is used for. Any ideas are more than welcomed.

Used with a rule it is a Protractor, angle finder/measure. set on an angled surface you can level out the the bubble and measure the angle of the slope. It is one of the bazic tools in metal working.

I you go over to the HAMB, there you will find scads of discussions on how to set up driveline/ujoint/differential/transmission angles. This is the tool to be used for those jobs, especially if it has a magnetic base.

Also useful for finding pipe angles for sewer/drainage systems. ++other uses in machining.

A very useful accessory for steel ruler combo squares. I love plugging one these on to my ruler when do layout work.
