Unique socket storage/organization (works for me)

I've been looking for socket storage/organization for quite a while. I read a lot on this and other forum threads on the topic. I liked the wrestling sockets trays idea and so I built a few out of wood to try then this idea came to me and for me it works great. (It may not be a new or unique idea, but I never ran into it when I searched extensively for ideas)

Customizable and quick to get and put back. Sockets do not move at all. Plus works with the shallow drawers that I had.

On the 1/4 in and 3/8 sets the magnetic rail is down on the magnetic side, the magnetic force is weaker on the side but just about perfect for the smaller sockets. I used hf magnetic tool strips.

Just thought I'd share my idea.

(Yeah my tools aren't the best but they do get used. I plan to upgrade when money isn't so tight)

No need to apologize for your tools--they look fine. Tools are just a means to an end. You use them and accomplish things with them. That is all that matters.

nice idea! or those the harbor freight magnets?? maybe with a deep drawer you cold flip the magnet right side up to allow for more storage on the magnet portion.

Nice set up. Your tools turn fasteners as well as any other brand. When I was young and rich I used to get Snap On. Now that I am old and poor I choose HF. I use the HF more than the SA, those are too shiny to scratch up.

Yeah they are harbor freight magnetic tool strips.

You could flip them over, I prefer them flipped upside down because the smaller sockets still stick to the side (both sides) but not so strong that they are difficult to remove. Plus they don't move AT ALL.

With the larger 1/2 in sockets it isn't as big of a deal, but my tool box drawers are too shallow to have them vertical (except the very bottom drawers)

IMO the westling socket organizer (or similar) is my preferred setup for vertical socket organization.

I like how customizable the possibilities are with these magnetic strips. I may change my setup in the future, especially as more tools are acquired.

Looks good, nice work. I just picked up a few of the kobalt socket organizers, and they are very nice. But, they don't hold enough sockets, and at 17-20 bucks a piece it can get expensive real quick if you have multiple sets.

Looks good.

Needs moar (as in some) size stickers. Won't look as hot if you use masking tape but hey it's gonna save time.

I see that great minds think alike (assuming I have a great mind) since my set-up is nearly identical for my deep sockets.

My neighbor did something along those lines for his large, 1-1/4+ wrenches. If you open those bars up you will find 6 of the block magnets. Pic 1. He struck 2 of the magnets to the back of the drawer (draw ), pic 2 and then a magnet between the wrench heads. After gutting the bar he repurposed bar as a brace for a floating shelf, cant get a pic of that at the moment.

I forgot to add, he also has some rare earth magnets on the underside of the drawers to hold stuff in place. Since he is a HF junkie i am assuming that they are the ones that HF sells, but can't gaurantee.
