I have a buddy who wears a ring made from a hex nut. The top still has one of the flats on it. I tried to make a similar one on bench grinder once, but ran into issues (mostly time related) with it getting too hot and too small to hold without tools. I recently saw a video where someone did a similar ring and he annealed it to make it softer in order to work it. Then he hardened it again at the end. I think this was the step I was missing, since I was fighting how long it was taking to make any progress.

If you were going to grind a hex net you don’t really need to anneal anything. Just dunk it in water as you go to keep it cool. Same goes for grinding pretty much anything.

I made a ring from .120 wall 1" 6061 aluminum tube for a coworker. She proposed to he BF the day her divorce was finalized. It was replaced with another ring at their wedding, but he still wears it on special occasions. Being aluminum it scratches easily, but I gave it a brushed finish with a Scotchbrite anyway.

Titanium- a Professor in college bought a scrap of tube off the bay of E and made his ring one evening on the lathe at school. No facets or anything, just turned details.

I think the coin rings are neat. i've looked into making one myself, just haven't gotten to that project yet. I wear a tungsten carbide ring that was ~$100. I'm rough on things and my ring still looks like new after 3 years.

I've been married for 8 years, active duty Navy for all of them. I don't wear a wedding ring to work, too easy to get snagged in a line (rope, for you non-nautical types), it's a shock hazard working on my RADAR system, and it's an expensive liability every time I put it in my pocket. I leave it at home most times, wearing it only when the wife and I go out together. I know I'm married and so does she. Neither of us needs a finger-cuff to remind us. If your SO needs you to wear it, you can get 'em cheap at TJ Max or Amazon.

tarbellb, congratulations, we got engaged last month and after making her Christmas present I was told I could never buy anything again and had to make everything. She had been sending me hint pictures of rings she liked, so I combined a few of them, 6061 T6, turned to size and shape on my lathe and detailed by hand. I ve made a couple dozen aluminum rings for freinds and coworkers in the past, they scratch easily initially but then even out and take on a unique texture depending on the wearer. Since I am a mechanic I will be getting a silicone band!

Even made the presentation box.

True that. A good buddy of mine still has his tattoo from his first marriage. He wears a simple gold band over it
Sometimes being able to take your ring off CAN save your marriage!
