Unistrut Question

Hello,

I am planning a 32 x 28 x 9 build for later this summer. In the garage I plan to do some woodworking and subsequently HVLP paint spraying and finishing (as well as storage).

I do not do any type of automotive work, but as mentioned above I do plan to continue woodworking, etc in the garage.

My question... what is the primary use of unistrut? How do you use it to better organize/work in your garage?

The primary use is to have a quick way to mount multiple conduits and pipes perpendicular to unistrut. Use two fasteners to hang unistut and hang multiple hangers from unistrut. Much quicker if you are dealing with concrete or hanging pipes off of all thread several feet off of ceiling.

The primary use of unistrut? Mounting things I guess. But they have an endless amount of brackets and adapters to make just about anything. They are super strong and can be used to hang things, mount things, build storage, make supports, etc. There was even one member on here that build a storage shelf that he had a hoist on that would raise and lower the shelves and he stored snowmobiles or riding lawn mowers on it.

True, many options sort of an erector set. 80/20 products are also vestal and cool. My CNC plasma table is built from 80/20 (aluminum).

As noted, the primary use is mounting conduit to a wall. But you can build almost anything with Unistrut, and it's ridiculously strong.

(You can also find it labeled "SuperStrut", which is a compatible competitor).

This stuff has lots of opportunities. If you have any weight over approx 200 lbs I would make sure you use the 12 gauge material.

Many years ago(about 1977 or so), a company I worked for built electrical power conditioning equipment using uni-strut, or super-strut. It was a 15KVA unit, with battery back ups. The shop floor assemblers would get a cart full of pre-cut and painted parts & put them together. Transformers, chokes, and capacitors would be bolted onto panels, and then wired up. I remember building at least three versions, but I think they went back to welded & painted chassis after that.
