I saw this servce cart on Craigslist and thought it was really interesting. I went and checked it out yesterday and brought it home. Couldn't resist.

The guy selling it said he bought it at an estate auction awhile back but no longer had room to store it. He said that it more then likely was used at a full service gas station and the attendant would roll it out to perform a quick service on your car.

Not exactly sure what Im going to use it for, but I'm sure I'll think of something. It is in really good shape considering the age of the cart. Only light surface rust on a few small areas. I used some naval jelly on the drawer knobs and the rust came right out. I figure it was made in the late sixties or early 70's. Maybe someone on here has seen one of these before, or has one and can give me a little bit more info on it.

Thanks

Sorry for the crappy pics. Its from my cell phone which has a scratch on the photo lense thingy.

We used to have something like this at the Goodyear store I worked at in the early 70's. It had an inventory of ignition tune-up parts (points, condensers, etc,) in the top cabinet and most of the drawers, some Delco catalogs and engine spec catalogs in other drawers, and a few other tools (distributor wrenches, dwell meter, etc).

Good to hear someone has actually seen and used one of these before.

In one of the drawers it has a paper liner that has some part numbers (I believe condenser #'s). Does this sound familiar to you?

I was thinking about stripping it and repainting it, but it's in such good shape, (only a few scratches here and there) that it wouldn't really be much of an improvement. Plus I like the character of the original paint. Has some history behind it. I just wish I knew a little more about when it was made and where it was used, etc.

Thanks for your input.

what section of CL was this under?

I usually keep my eye on the "tools" section, but its pretty boring 'round these parts.

Thats really cool...I bet Bull will like it...

You're not wrong!

That thing is awesome. Don't repaint it!

It's a man-law though: you have to post prices for this type of thing. Either I missed it, or it isn't there.:headscrat

Everythings always for sale... if the price is right.

I found this on the Palm Springs CA area craigslist. The seller was asking $300 for it. I made him a reasonable offer and he accepted. Nice guy too. He had a couple of new snap on cabs in his garage and really didn't have the room for it anymore. He said for awhile he did have it inside and his son used it to put toys and books in it. Thats how clean this thing is. The only thing I have done to it is put some naval jelly on the knobs to get the surface rust off of them and they shined up perfectly.

We just moved into a new house and my digital camera has been packed. The wife just dug it out of a box this afternoon so I'll take some better pictures and post them up for you guys.

Im very flattered. Today I got my first "you ****".

Whoah, hold on now. I, for one, can't award that yet since I still don't the price. You mention $300 asking price and you made an offer....

Now, you can keep that final price secret, but it means no "suckage" for you will be awarded.:lol_hitti

I have a vintage delco automotive bulb wall case (with all the little drawers) that would look sweet on the wall next to that. It will be in the classifieds in a day or two.

I'm frankly a little relieved... sounds like you paid a few hundred for that (it's pretty awesome and looks worth it)

I was worried you were going to tell us that you got it for $10 from some guy cleaning out his dad's garage.

I more then likely paid more for it then some on the board here would. But, in my area, things like this are very rare to find. I peruse the local CL a couple times a week and never find anything remotely interesting save for a bench vise here and there. When I saw it, I new I would have to jump on it. I had the $, so I said what the hell and got it. Im happy with it, and I'll get some good use out of it. Of course I'll baby it and wipe it down with a diaper at least once a week. :)

I gave my brother a wall cabinet similar to that, same brand, style, logo, and colors.

I had just bought all new matching Craftsman cabinets for my garage, and didn't have room for everything. I don't think he has ever used it yet. He isn't into collectibles and/or old things (hmmm...wonder if he's REALLY my brother?) :lol_hitti

Maybe I should offer to buy him a new C-man cabinet, and trade him back?

Whaddaya think, guys? I guess I'll need to go over there tonight and take some pix.
