I could see that being useful for starting a bolt in a few hard to reach places because of the clamping action. maybe for holding a nut inside equipment. Not totally useless but hardly a go to tool.

These aren’t meant to replace your day to day sockets. They’re just a tool to have in case you don’t have or cannot find a particular size

Looks like it might work as a replacement for the socket set I carry on my motorcycle for roadside stuff. It would save a lot of room.

Funny this topic came up, I had seen one of these a long time ago, but like a dummy passed on it for $5, at the time thinking it was a gimmicky, Sears fathers day special type tool. Forgot about it, then recently spotted one on ebay.

Channellock no. 906 "universal" drill chuck-style socket, 3/8 drive, made in USA. I found an older post in the GJ archive where it is mentioned these were made by Milbar for Channellock.

Milbar is well known for their safety wire twisting pliers, but nowadays it looks like they are owned by Imperial, and it appears this socket has been discontinued for 20+ years. Most used examples look new, if that says anything...

Edit: rated for 1,200 in/lbs of torque!
Capacity: 5/16"-5/8", 8mm-16mm! Replaces 20 sockets!

If you can’t find the correct size socket in your toolbox you need to buy more or relinquish your GJ membership. :bounce:

I have one of those around somewhere. A pair of pliers is more effective.

I will say this much.....I used to use my gatorgrip socket with my impact driver on the eyebolts that my old christmas tree stand had. Those do work well for low torque eyebolt spinning. Only time I ever used it and now I have a new stand......my gatorgrip is old enough to be USA made.

Ugg I hate them any of them things...some guy in HOG club used to carry the one that had like pins inside a socket.

Funny some thought of a universal joint. I thought like Metrinch sockets when I read it before I clicked on the link

Last time I was at Wal-Mart, I was looking at those in the tool aisle. You could get them with a 3/8 round head ratchet, or with just the socket and 1/4 hex to 3/8 sq adapter like your pic. I'm about 99% sure the socket was USA made in both sets, but the ratchet and adapter were both Chinese made.

I found one of those when I cleaned out my dads place, I though it was some kind of stud remover until I saw the post about it here. It looks un-used but without package.

I had a channellock one. Disappeared on me about 25 years ago. I think about it sometimes.
