Universal wall opener for old Genie unit??

Hi...my prehistoric, non-smart Genie opener employs what I "believe" is their old/discontinued GIRU-1 Intellicode unit to communicate with remotes and keypads (which it does just fine, see left in pic below).

My question is: Is there by any chance a wireless wall button that might work with this?? Genie says no, but I thought I'd still ask. I'd simply love to replace the 2 wired buttons in my garage with wireless ones to clean things up.

Thanks so much-
Robert

Don't ask.
There are generic universal type kits that include a receiver. Connect the receiver to your opener just like a wired switch.
You can add multiple transmitter(s) to them.

Any wireless remote with a receiver will work, and in fact you've already got one right there. The receiver is designed to replace the wired doorbell switch. So really, you're just talking about remote "shape" and "looks" only with your question. That is the only issue you have. And maybe you don't have enough remotes.

Thanks for everyone's help. The hope was to not have to buy an entirely new receiver (as I already have 2 remotes and a wireless keypad working just fine with this), but it seems like the age and Intellicode functionality are usually the issue.

For example, @firbirdparts, I'd already asked Genie about that specific model but they said no (and even the product page says it only works with units newer than 2013...which mine definitely isn't). Who knows...it seems like exactly what I want, so maybe I should just buy it and test.

Very true. I guess in my mind I figured I'd wait until I got a new garage door opener, since that will likely come with a couple remotes and I'll know what system I'm working with. That said, that Genie opener is probably 40 years old and still seemingly working fine. Probably outlast me (!;)).

Back in the 90s, I built a frequency generator that I bet would open that thing. Security was terrible on those older units.

If you can figure out the freq and transmit, it likely will open the door.

I'd get rid of it.
