I was helping a friend clean out her father's garage and we found this old belt driven grinder bolted to the table. I did not see any markings on the unit, however it appears to have several thick coats of paint and plenty of rust, so there may be a stamping marked underneath.

Anyone familiar with this? There are brass(?) oilers above each bearing. There is a tool guide attached, but it is unlike anything I have ever come across.

^^^^ THIS ^^^^

It's a wet stone for sharpening axes and blades.

The pulley on the motor looks a little large. The stone should rotate slowly to keep from overheating the edge. Some of these grinders have a built-in gear reduction, so it may be fine. If not, then a smaller pulley on the motor will slow it down.

The tray that the stone sits in is made to hold water to keep the stone wet.

The tool guide is probably for chisels.

Very cool - thanks for the info.

The motor in the picture is a replacement and it definitely spins too fast for it's intended use. There is no step down gearing (it's a solid shaft from pulley to grinding stone).

I think I will see how it cleans up.
