Unknown Cable

I have a “Cat5E” gray cable running to the outside of my garage to my basement mechanical room. What would that be for?
New to the page and look forward to the information.

Most likely a PoE camera, but could be other things like an outdoor wifi access point etc. Any other Cat 5 cables run to the same room?

No. It runs right next to my water meter.

I just looked those up and I bet that’s it what it is. Not sure why it’s there, unless the city mandates and upgrade or something

What does it go to on the outside of the garage ? It might have been for a remote meter and now they might be doing it all electronically and did away with the remote meter ?
