Anyone have any idea what this is for - is it a bearing remover of some sort?

Looks sort of like a die?

Can you take them out and look at them end?

It probably had an extension for the head/handle. It takes a bit of torque to cut threads.

I'm less confident in my suggestion the more I look at it, and you raise another point.

The round part reminds me of the die heads that are meant to ratchet in the housing, but the hex portion (that looks threaded on) is throwing me off...
