Does anyone recognize this? Ft. It's pretty beat up, But the arrow looks like the Pierce Arrow marking. Only the letters don't seem right. And I haven't seen a claw hammer by Pierce Arrow. Screenshot_20251205-155531.jpgScreenshot_20251205-155502.jpg

Fastest and best response to threads like this is usually the topical thread. In this case 'Hammertime!' or the Hammer Taxonomy thread. Both in Sticky. You might get someone notice here, but there are dedicated hammer guys who Watch those threads and posting on the thread will trigger an Alert for them that there is a new post.

I'll have to do that after I get it as clear as possible. Thanks!

^ try rubbing some chalk onto it and then wiping it off to see if you can bring up the detail.

(no chalk? try to regular baking flour.)

I'm seeing " arrow, X H G R arrow" :headscrat

Yeah that's what I'm seeing too. Either a G or a C with the dash placement making it look like a G. I'll probably have to dig out the chalk. I just have so many unknowns was hoping some would be easy. Usually I can figure stuff out if I can make out the name. But even some of these like the KR Wilson 9614-A I can't seem to find. I did find the BV5 though. And the scissors I'm fairly certain it's the Joseph f McCoy Co but I can't seem to find any others marked Germany. Although the family history says that's where they were from. I can't figure out the weird extension thing. Almost like a swivel extension likely marked B16 and I can't figure out the maker on the little tweezer things. Although I found it kit that they go with. Anyways, not expecting anyone to figure these out for me but this is basically what any given handful will produce as far as things I'm having trouble identifying.
Just going to take time I guess. But I'll see what I can make happen with some chalk.

I have over 800 *.jpg files in a folder of "ebay unknowns" - items I have either not been able to assign to a manufacturer, or items for which there simply isn't any information available on the maker.
They languish in that folder.
Every now and then something shows up here, or on ebay, or Craigslist, or some other site I stumble upon, and the answer appears.
Don't let it make you crazy.

Your German-made "Jos. F. McCoy" pliers were imported by Jos. F. McCoy of New York

Dang it, could not make my brain do that this weekend. I knew it was something that phonetically made a word,

I Excel. IXL etc

Excelsior crossed my mind, but was hung up on the G

I was thinking that may have been a Stanley hammer branded for some one else, and went down the rabbit hole a bit.

Glad you worked it out.

Bingham was a wholesale hardware and tool distributor and "manufacturer" - that hammer was most likely outsourced by Bingham from some other outfit.

Bingham / W. Bingham Co., 1278 W. 9th St., Cleveland, OH / est. 1841 inc. 1888 closed 1961 / wholesale distributor and manufacturer / https://case.edu/ech/articles/b/bingham-william /

click on my "signature" line below and download the list - you will find the answers to a lot of the questions you are asking in there. ;)
