Unmarked electric panel

Hey all.
We have an unmarked electric panel. A few months after we bought the house we figured out most of it.
However, I don't know what turns off the garage and the water heater (located inside the garage).
If I turn off some stuff and try the garage door, thats easy. But how do I figure out the water heater?

If its an electric water heater look for a 2pole breaker,if its a power vented gas water heater it may be on with a garage circuit.
If all else fails try the ones you haven't marked yet.

Get a non contact voltage tester, they are pretty cheap and handy, but don't ever trust your life to one. Have a helper hold it to the wire while you flip the switch

If it's electric it should be a 2 pole 30 or 40, most are 30. If it's gas then it doesn't have any electric for it

Is there a subpanel in the garage?

Get a bird dog circuit tracer. I got one at HD. It clips on the wires at the appliance or plug and transmits a signal. The other piece is a little receiver that reads the RF signal and translates it to a noise pattern. I used this one by Triplet.
