I know this is a long shot, but...

I’n on travel for work to the East Coast and came across a couple unmarked vises in an antique store.

Any feedback regarding likely manufacturer?

The yellow one looks interesting...

Requesting recommendations regarding whether they are worth buying .

Large unfinished one- $70
Small unfinished one- $40
Yellow One- $40

The yellow one literally has ECLIPSE cast into the side, how is that unmarked? Lol

The larger unfinished one looks like might be a Colton patent vise. Can't tell with the smaller one.

I personally wouldn't buy the yellow one or the last one, unless you have a thing for overpriced exposed screw vises.

Davethorik,

Thanks- The two unmarked ones were the big and little one in the same picture (I should have been more specific).

Thanks for the advice- Learning a lot on this site.

Dan To be honest these extra tinny photos are not helpful! For example I think this one might be a Chas Parker (I can not recall the model) and I seem to remember that there is only a model number on the vise body but on the main screw collar/garter, it has the traditional Chas Parker inscription.

If this is the CP that I am thinking of, then the support piece under the vise as well as the dynamic jaw support shelf attached to it have a tenancy to sheer off/break under pressure. If you are buying it as a collector this might not be an issue, if you plan on using it, well you have to be gentle with it.

gman007,

Copy and understand.

I was definitely looking for something I can use daily.

Thanks for the info.

Roughly where is home, and where on the east coast are you? None of those vises looks especially interesting, are better vises that hard to come by where you live or where you are now?

Live in San Diego and am in Newport, RI right now. Trying to take advantage of what I assume to be more antique tools out here. That logic has proven true for some hand planes and furniture in the past.

Thanks- I actually have a large (to me) vise I picked up and restored thanks to the help of the members on this forum- It is a Columbian 504 1/2.

Now that I have "the bug" I was trying to find a smaller vise to put on a different workbench at home. In a perfect world I'd like to get my hands on another Columbian 503. If you're willing to have a novice peruse your collection, I'd be very interested in swinging by.

I was actually planning on taking a road trip to a couple flea markets down in Wallington, CT tomorrow on the off chance of finding a vintage vise. If you're an hour away that's half of what I'm already planning on doing tomorrow...
