Hi,

Can you use unprotected light (plastic base type/no enclosure) mounted to PVC box in mechanical room?

THanks

These things work great in areas where you are worried about smacking a bulb (crawlspace, attic, mechanical area, etc). Ends up being about the same price as a buying a porcelain base, box, and bulb guard.

In my basement I have some porcelain fixtures on the ceiling that have plastic bulb cages that snap onto the porcelain fixture. I have smacked while moving lumber around several times and never broken a bulb.

That metal one posted above looks sweet though. If I was doing a fresh install of a new fixture I would go with that setup.
