Unusual GFCI problem.Plug welded to it.

I was running a shop vacuum outside plugged into a GFCI on my porch. When I got through with it the plug would not come out of the GFCI. I tripped it and had to take pliers to remove the plug and that left half a plug in the GFCI. It had welded itself to the plug. I haven't replaced the GFCI yet but will if it ever quits raining here. Anybody else run into something like that.

Sounds like a loose connection meets high current... Got hot. Need to replace receptacle (GFCI) and the male plug on vacuum.

Could be a loose connection, or it could be an outlet with corroded contacts. Either way, it needs replacing.

If it's in an area prone to corrosion, look into the WR GFCI outlets. They have plating on the any bare metal that can corrode.

Is it electrically welded or is it just mechanically " stuck " ?

sounds like loose high resistant connection
