Today I was dissasembling my HP laptop. Some of screws i saw first time. I didn't find it on web ant it is too small to make a picture. Screw head is 5 milimeters in diameter and 8 milimeters long. In the middle of the head is hexagonal hole but, there is slot screw drive across head of the screw.
Which type of the screw is that, and which screwdriwer to use?

It is a torx screw. The slot is for people who don't have torx screwdrives, but I seriously suggest not using a slotted screwdriver on it.

What a profane chart that is SKang.

To the OP, it may just be a combination flat head and hex screw. Use one or the other.

My other thought is that the slot could be for some kind of retention system which holds the screw on the hex screwdriver until it is started, in order to prevent screws from dropping into the computer during assembly.

Type your laptop brand and model number with "screw" at the end on Google.

You've already voided the warranty, just use a slotted bit and way she goes. You can always order new screws. Just find the part number.

It's a Slotted Torx, not Hex + Slot (notice the lobes between the points rather than a straight line/flat surface as would be the case with a Hex/Allen).

It may be possible to get them back in, but you'll be better off getting new screws (heads strip out easily using slotted drivers and will be a PITA to remove again).

For HP laptops & desktops that have the combo slotted screws it's a torx. I should know, I disassemble & reassemble them all day long.

Laptop is 2,5 years old (warranty expired), and works great with any problem, but it is dirty. I dissasembled laptop to the last screw, and put it together again. It works normally, in fact I am writing this message on it.
I have two crapy curved screwdrivers, couple wrenches and sloppy ratchet. Ewerything is 20-30 years old and low quality from the beggining! But with that tool I have managed with my father to change engine two times and rebiuild another one and lot of other things (every tool is third class quality). That is why I am in the quest for the tool.

Profane? Hmmmmm ............. possibly profound. Maybe profane if a WTF is spoken when you see one.

:bounce:

Profane in reference to the symbols before the "Screw Drivers" in the title. Somebody wasn't happy when they made that table. They have also picked several individual bits to swear at. :bounce:

Change engines? Like on a lawnmower?

He, he! No it wasn't lawnmower. It was VW Golf mk I and VW Golf mk II.
In former comunist Yugoslavia (pre 1991) and in Croatia in the war (1991-1995) and after that (1996-2000) situation was not good at all. There wasn't importer for any german or other tools, and if it was we couldn't afford it.There was tool factory but tool was rubbish! VW Golfs wasn't problem! Problem was east German Wartburg (2 stroke, 3 cilinder engine)

Car ideal for mental breakdown if you want fix something! For example every cilider has separate ignition. And so on, and so on...
After this car my father decided to use bicycle, his explanation was:"It is good for my nerves!"

After that we had Yugoslav Zastava 750:

A little more conventional car, but unreliable, rusty...

Maybe my posts are funny to you, but it doesn't bother me. I am just saying wat reality was.But reality was unbeliveable for any western man.

I have had several HP laptops apart. All of them used 0 (zero) or 00 Phillips.

Buying replacements is next to impossible unless you can find someone scrapping out an old laptop of the exact same make and model on eBay. I bought a whole set for about $5. Great to have spares !

Rubber "feet" are also very difficult to find. I bought a whole back cover (including the Windows Vista license sticker) for $10 on eBay. Worth the cost for the 6 rubber feet !

I have a driver for those somewhere, HP was the only company with them as they started it. I use to work on hundreds of PC's so HP had to be different. I have jars of screws if you need any, still have old parts too.
