The local franchisee in CT, about an hour away frm me. The "owner" is living local to me to build up this area. He is coming to look at my floor Sunday 9AM so that there are no extra charges or surprises on either end the day of the install.

Keep you posted.

ask about repairs if some section of the floor pops off, ask about a complete redo if serious issues with bonding. ask for the brand name of epoxy they use. ask and read the fine print if you have to call a lawyer in... check franchise with better bus bureau, ask for references.... In many commercial jobs a certain % of failure is OK - usually not OK in residential settings.

so he is not a coatings professional - just a fanchise owner???? what did he do before he got into floors?

ask for msds on products used - ask about induction time and voc levels on all products - (see if he really knows what's going on)

Franchisee will be accompanied by the company owner for the balance of the summer. This promo pricing is going up but they need garages to do to get their crew trrained. 100% epoxy he says is low VOC and the references I checked stated odor is very low and gone within hours.

I will ask brand of epoxy and post here.

5 year warranty covers poping off (peeling and delamination)

I will keep you posted.

100 % epoxy implies 0 VOC and pretty much no odor. no info on their franchises in any google search I could find. - two red flags so far!

He will not tell you the brand of epoxy over the phone? red flag #3!

so what happens if it peels? spot fix or entire recoat? Some floors are just not acceptable to epoxies and coatings - no matter the prep. Experienced contractors know when to walk away - sometimes you cannot tell until after the fact - then what? What does it take to get your money returned? Note that most contractors charge $5-$10 per sf so that they can afford to 'bite the bullet' from time to time. Not this contractor!

read the fine print disclaimers in their contract....

Sure sounds like it. I have not hired him yet but I am seriously thinking about it. The experienced guy is training a franchisee. I would not hire the new franchisee now but everyone's got to learn. And now I understand the pricing. They need lots of jobs to practice and train the guy.

you're a training job?
