The Tekton Small Engine Kit that sold out very quickly as a prototype is supposed to be released in November as an updated set. In fact, they're already listed on their website.

You have your choice of either fixed head or flex head ratchet with or without quick release. They tossed the stubby ratchet in favor of a bit ratchet and rearranged the components. Looks pretty good to me.

there's also a new You Tube video about the kit.

I know you can’t include everything with these kits but not including a spinner handle seems like a big omission. Swap out the 6” extension for a spinner handle with female attachment and it would be a much more capable kit.

just my opinion though!

Thanks for sharing, Fedwrench.
As with the prototype, I still don't see anything that makes this small engine specific. :dunno:
To be sure, nothing really makes it small engine specific... But... It takes up much less space than the standard tekton quarter inch set because it does not have any deep sockets , and, unlike their quarter inch set, it actually includes bits.

I got one of the experimental kits and I left it at my parents because when I did stuff at my parents it was usually little things and it was a perfect size set for that..

I often need bits with things like small engines, but I rarely need a deep socket. But of course with a small engine I probably need something for spark plugs.

I do have to agree with @Hakeem that this would be nice if it actually had a spinner handle for those bits.

I agree the needs a spinner handle. However, I feel it doesn't have a spinner handle because, Tekton neither makes a short nor slender spinner handle so, we do without until Tekton comes out with one. However, I think one of my narrower ones like Armstrong will fit nicely.
I think the small engine kit name is pure marketing. I guess compact socket set doesn't have the same appeal. :dunno:
I'd still like to see a metric only option. Nice to see Tekton continue to release new product.

This would have been a great opportunity to unveil a 1/4 drive spark plug socket! Perhaps a dual size flip version.

Agreed.
Unfortunately, Tekton doesn't make a decent spinner handle. Other options are available.

Also agreed. It's just a name.
Nothin' to do with "small engines" at all.

Hopefully they've made a larger production run of these.

With all these Tekton specialized kits prototypes they keep releasing I think they should just release the foam kit with a kit builder on their web site. Release a couple cases, the buyer picks what goes in each hole in the case since multiple tool options will fit in the same hole. Some people want 6 point, some want 12 point, some want standard, some want metric, some want to pick and choose a mixture, some want a no skips sets, some people have 0 use to drag around a 9/32 socket. You are never going to appease everyone with these kits. Tekton already sells all their pieces individually.

Something like foam with room for 20 sockets, 5 wrenches, ratchet, extensions, 2 sets of bits, 2 screw drivers, ect. Each hole gives you the options to put in it such as this socket hole fits a 12 or 6 point 13mm or 1/2" 1/4" drive or 10mm or 3/8" 3/8" drive you pick, wrench spot 1 fits 3 different sized wrenches you pick. Everyone can have their kit how they want it, the builder on the web site basically fills a cart, you load it when it shows up.

Interesting stuff, my email said they were only sending it to 47 customers .. but I'll probably pass on it anyway as there's really no need for a carry kit here

Well, this must be some other scheme - my invite is dated today .. but doesn't say I need to wait until tomorrow

.... because there were only 47 people who were actually interested enough in the item to click "Notify me when this is available."

I don't believe there will be any issue with availability of the item:

Hey Brian,

Thanks for reaching out, we've got a healthy stock of these currently and they'll be a normal part of our offering so if they do go out of stock at any point it shouldn't be long before they're back in.

Thanks!

in other news.....

I believe this old MAC Sabina M5S 1/4" drive spinner handle I scored Saturday should fit nicely into that upper section:

Tekton SKT07901 50-piece 1/4" drive "Small Engine Kit"

I ordered the version with the standard (non-quick-release, non-flex-head) ratchet.
They've repositioned the contents so the bits don't fall out when you open the case.
There appears to be more than enough room in that top section to add the MAC Sabina M5S spinner handle (post #16) as well as a Power Torque GM4359 "speedy driver" once I figure out how you're supposed to go about "customizing" that foam.
I'm guessing a very sharp and long blade will do the trick?
Is there some secret to working with this stuff?

Overall, I think the $90 price of admission is reasonable, considering current competitive offerings.
YMMV
