updates to Alloy Artifacts?

I love the AA page (not Alcoholics Anonymous, sorry). Looks from the log that the creator of the page went to enormous lengths to document everything he had in the way of tools, updating the page extensively from 2005 to 2009, and then a few more times until 2011. Since then, nothing. Seems like an awful lot of work and enthusiasm done on the owner's part, shows his interest in the tool hobby, but I find it hard to believe he just dropped everything altogether and doesn't get any new tools or want to do updates.

Anyone know the backstory to this excellent web resource, and why the owner seems to not be into it any more?

I spoke with him a couple of months ago, he has lost interest. Said he may start again. I do hope so.

That's a shame. His site is probably the best of its kind on the web. He should place a "donations" button on each page. Maybe that would help. Money doesn't motivate everyone but it couldn't hurt.

I have learned so much and still learning new things everyday, as soon as my cold subsides, I will start posting some more cool items on the GJ, worthy of AA.

Hope he never stops the AA site...

I remember the site having a lot more to it and then seeing it scaled down a few yrs ago. I bet it was expensive having a big site with lots of views.

The problem with a wiki is that you lose the ability to control it, which if you are passionate and particular might be a big minus.

I seem to recall that the proprietor of the site wasn't much of a communicator, though. That part is a shame if true. But snapmom seems to have a relationship with him. Or maybe I am just not remembering the details correctly about his personality.

Without that site, I probably wouldn't have gotten into this hobby... But, if someone wants to start a similar Wiki, I'm all about contributing.

For future reference, in case his website does goes away someday...you can call up archived copies of websites at https://archive.org/ . Enter the URL of the website into the 'Wayback Machine' blank at the top of the page, and it will show you a number of archived copies of the site. In the case of Alloy Artifacts, they have a dozen or so earlier versions dating back to 2006.

I agree with the donation button. Just $5 from a small percentage of the site's users would probably add up pretty good. He could afford to win some ebay auctions for rare tools etc.

I am guessing that he had issues with comcast.
One they changed the tools for building the personal site.
2 they seem bugged out about copy write infringement.
Looked like an interesting site. But if it had any commercial use they would shut it down.
