I know cordless drills have been talked to death here, but this question was poised to me. Co worker's brother wants the best bang for the buck to upgrade from his craftsman 19.2 drill. He says it just isn't powerful enough. First brand that came to my mind was rigid since they seem to be well liked here. More I thought about it thou, would a compact 18v be more powerful, or would the larger verson be the way to go. Is the rigid even the one to recommand or is Milwaukee or DeWalt better? From what I have seen, the craftsman 19.2 isn't bad for what it is. The drill would be for general use and some woodworking.

When he says "more powerful" does he mean more torque, more speed or longer battery life? The reason that I ask is that I have a 5-6 year old 3/8 18V Craftsman (original batteries!) and it will almost break your wrist on low speed. I'm just surprised that he would need more power... maybe he got a dud?

Talking a little more with him. The drill is close to 10 years old and the barriers are going. Should he just get a couple lin ion replacement batteries?

Li ion will give the c3 tools a bit more umph over nicad batteries. If he really want a excellent drill and do not mind paying top dollar. Festool and panasonic are great tools for wood working with allot of power.
