I'm looking to start re-covering several boats and need some advice on an upholstery stapler. Need something that I can service/adjust myself. Thinking about a Unicatch, as I used one for years when in the Car Audio scene, but I'm curious if there are any small staple experts on the GJ.

Thanks in advance!

I'll be watching this ! My wife started recovering some kitchen stool. She tried 2 different hand powered stapler and an electric one and non could sink the staples into the particle board.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I am only considering air staplers! Messed around with puny hand staplers for too long back in the day.

I'll be using it for the boats, but I'm sure that I'll make a few enclosures with it when I get the chance as well as re-covering stools and bench seats.

I'm sure the PC works fine, I'll check out Grex as well. Anyone else with an opinion on these?

After my experience with the Grex pinner, I got a Grex long nose that I'm quite happy with, but I've only put less than 1K staples through it. Fasco is quite good as well. Again, long nose is better if you need to get into corners and such (2" is considered long nose). I'm not sure at all about servicing though...obviously haven't gotten that far with it.

I have 2 BEA models, a standard nose 3/8" model and an extended nose 1/2". Both work great and can be serviced/rebuilt and last forever. They (BEA) make nice high end tools and are probably the top of the industry for staplers.

We mainly use BEA staple guns here at work model 16-436LN to be exact that has a 2 inch nose for hard to reach area's a long with a few older Fasco and Senco guns..
They all use 3/8" crown staples from 3/16" to 5/8" Monel or stainless steel staples..
Those are used for everything from headliners, sealers, trim, upholstery and seating.

The BEA's are spendy at around $200 but they come with a parts catalog and can be rebuilt even though we havent had any problems with them after daily use.

It sounds like you are going to be doing stuff steadily for the long hull so I wouldn't skimp out on a staple gun because if you are doing any repair work on newer boats you will probably be reupholstering on seat frames made out of composites like King Starboard, Starlite, Exanded PVC & Ect or even molded..

Those materials are not the same density as MDF, Partical board, Lauan and ect.. and some of those guns like the Porter Cable that are made for stapling through light wood from my experience will not last very long

I've always used Duo-fast air staplers. Good quality, zero down time. Ours were purchased prior to my joining the business in '72.
