Upright shop vac?

Hello All:

My shop is in quite a dusty, dirty area (especially when the wind blows) and I find I need to vacuum the dirt that blows in frequently.

Wrestling with my canister shop vac and hose is annoying , so I'm wondering if anyone knows of an upright style vac suitable for shop use.

Looking on the 'net gives me lots of Hoover & Dyson house vacs but nothing I'd think would work in a shop.

I have a rigid wall mounted shop vac, it hangs on the wall along with plenty of room for accessories and extra hose so I can reach 20 foot or so and if I need to it disconnects from the wall easily. The only downside is the canister is kinda small but I use mine mostly for car interiors, I sweep the floor. There are fancier more expensive models but my cheap rigid works far far better than any car wash vacuum.

I have a old whole house vacuum I rescued from the scrap pile at a remodel job. Works fine for the shop. Mounted it with a wall switch and then just plug the hose into it with whichever attachment ( short wand, carpet wand, etc) you need and go to town.

I have found that a large janitorial type dry mop, (36" wide) works well for dusty floors. May want to use a little mop oil.

I have a "whole house vacuum" (http://www.nutone.com/products/product-line/central-vacuum-systems) that I am not going to be using. I'm getting ready to post it on Craigslist but if you want to stop by and take a look, I'd rather sell it to a Garage guy.

The shop is 2400 sq. ft. (40'x60') so I'm wondering how a whole house system would work? Do you guys have 'outlets' scattered around or long hoses or ?

And on the dry mop, mop oil? Something different than the red sawdust (sweeping compound) I've seen used?

I would take Ray up on the Whole-House vac. Nutone makes a really good unit, it will damn near pull the dirt from under the concrete pad lol. The only thing is you will have to use special pvc pipe for it. It's a thin wall pvc, and I mean THIN. You will need to make sure the pipe is cut square and all edges are scraped flat no rough edges(if its not it can catch the moving debri and clog).
