OK, you may not think this belongs here, but it does...

The UPS guy drove up with a "special delivery" this afternoon... comes over and hands me a big, heavy box...

So I opened it up...

And found this.

Of course, enticed, I just had to see what was inside...

And then, lo and behold... just like the centerfolds of yore... color!

4077 or so pages of pure shop ****. I forgot about this evil tome of sin, until after ordering some replacement abrasive wheels, I asked the woman at the order desk "You don't still have print copies of the big book, do you?" to which she answered "It's on the way"... with a chuckle in her voice...

Evil. Just... pure... evil.

I'm sorry if I'll be offline... I think I'll be in the other room... um... "occupied" for a while :D

Oh man, if you think that’s good you should try this new thing called the internets.

Yea but sometimes a paper catalog can be less frustrating then typing/searching/back and forth comparing.

I was going to say enjoy the book, but then I saw the dudes on the cover (sausage fest). :)

What catalog is that? That's massive.

I mean... there is a whole section of reamers and another for lube. Not to mention *******, and all types of unions; male to female, female to female, male to male...

That’s not even getting into the insertion and pulling devices.

And of course, measuring equipment!

I’m up to my ears in Parker’s hydraulic fittings, NPT, and JIC fitting all day long.

I’ll admit that I use Parker’s catalogs instead of the web. Their site is torture to use even when it works. Of course you also have to know what suffix to add to the catalog part number. I mean they do kind of mention that in the footnotes (sort of).

Also, if you’re interested in a fresh Hell, start trying to order EO adapters from anyone in the US. Maybe throw in a female BSPP gauge swivel for fun!

Well, looking at the ****** on the bench I give it 2 weeks before the pages are all stuck together from dirty lube excretions on the fingers and such.

Big deal. When you get a new McMaster-Carr catalog then you can brag. They just don't hand those babies out to ANYBODY.

I use my MSC book to flatten things out made of paper. It's got individual sections where you can store stuff that you want to keep flat.

My big problem with MSC is that if you need something and order it. It will show up the next day by noon. And in this day and time call them and you get a sale rep that their first language is English and usually by the second ring. Not put on hold with elevator music or worse. Great place to buy from. Will be a little more than other places but them having it, and you having it by lunch the next day makes it one of the cheaper places to mail order from. Call and get their catalog. I have some from 10 years or more old. My wife uses them for flatting flowers etc.

Milton, you confused me. You consider it a PROBLEM that whatever you order shows up by noon the next day. Personally, I'd consider that a FEATURE.

The problem is that you keep on ordering stuff. Beats going to stores and not being able to find what you need in the size you need it etc. Gets expensive eventually...

Those supply house catalogs never really interested me. There's usually a cheaper place to buy tools.

That plus they have what you need... even if it's some bizarre left handed anti-seize dispensing self-intercooled adjustable pentalobe wrench. And if they don't, you can default to McMaster-Carr or Grainger.

Oh yeah, when I looked at one of the abrasive wheels I got it had a nick in the side (it was out of the box and in a plastic bag, and apparently was a return already)- I called them, they overnighted both the return box and a new one, in my paws (out in BF Egypt) the next day by noon. New, virgin, in the box. And the woman at the order desk told me she put notes all over why I was returning it - and sure enough, those notes really were all over the order slip.

Integrity and Service, to me, are worth far more than Cheap and Slow.

Those supply house catalogs never really interested me. Here's usually a cheaper place to buy tools.

Only .03% of their line items are generic tools. The other 99.97% are items you will never find except from a couple other industrial suppliers.

Order by 8 pm and have it the next day at a ground shipping rate can be a lifesaver.

If SO had a program like that, there would be no need for dealers.

I like MSC, especially since they basically have everything. However I hate their prices. They are downright criminally high on certain items - even with our corporate discount. We basically only use them if we really have to, or for commodity items like basic hand tools. If it's something weird, and ultra expensive for no reason, we usually just try to setup an account with the manufacturer and order directly.
