Upsizing breaker to a subpanel

Recently I had a solar PV system installed. As part of the install, a new 100Amp subpanel was put inside my garage. Below is the before and after of the PV system in my outside main panel.

Before: 100A breaker to house subpanel and 40A breaker for AC.
After: 100A breaker to house subpanel and 40A breaker to new 100A subpanel with 40A AC breaker and 30A breaker for solar.

My question is, can I swap out the 40A breaker in the main panel to a 100A, upsize the 8 awg wires to 4 awg, and install a new 60A breaker in the new subpanel for a 240v EV charge station?

The new subpanel has a 125A bus rating so I should be good with the solar backfeed even with a 100A breaker.

Please advise

4awg is only good for 90 amps. Go to 3awg CU and you should be good for that piece.

Note EV charge station probably warrants upgrading your overall service size.

Any reason you want a 60A EV Charger? If you could get by with less it might save you the trouble. Assuming you’re parked overnight a 30A Charger might fill you up over the course of 6-10 hours while you sleep.

I put in a 48A charger for future proofing, but my BMW i3 can only draw a max 30A and it goes from 5% to 100% in about 5 hours.

Right now we have two Volts but only one 240v charger so I need another. The Volts only charge at 16A but I want to future proof if I ever get a Model 3 or something. I agree 60A is overkill for my current and even near future needs.
