In the beginning stages of planning a pole barn in upstate NY. Talked to Morton before my last project about ten years ago but ended up going stick built. Very happy with the building but I think the next one will need to be bigger and pole building may make more sense. After reading a lot on here, I realize location is a huge variable. And yes, as everyone has said before, Morton does outstanding work but wondering what other options are out there. Any experiences shared by others in my area (Albany/Saratoga NY) would be appreciated.

My father lives in the area and paid a company to put a RV shelter up..after 9 months and it being nov at that point he got his money back and did it him self. That company wasn't morton.

The amish community cant be to far away and none have the internet. Maybe you should try asking local small sawmills or lumber yards.

I live in the capital region too. Don't have any direct experience as I don't have a building yet.

I assume you have seen one of the big ones, Fingerlakes construction. They engineer the designs and produce a lot of the materials. They have crews that do installs but only in west NY. I forget if it was on here or somewhere else but apparently they can be slow to get "small" jobs like 24x40 going.

An outfit called Double O builders put up a board and batten garage down the road from me. I thought they looked pretty promising.

Would be interested to hear your take and which way you go.

Yes, I did talk to Fingerlakes years ago. I think you are right that they only work in Central or West NY. I am going to talk to some local people and get some ideas. Lots of info on this site and I enjoy following the builds. Looking at starting next year so I have time for research.

Shirk? Weren't they the guys from The Money Pit?

Beat me to it!!!

I don't have a pole building but my bro-in-law used Pioneer Pole Buildings out of Pennsylvania. We are in Orange County, not too far from you. He said they work all over the tri-sate area.

I think the builder that is doing mine will go there, I know they go all over CT. That being said, they have not been really great with communication so far. I signed the contract for my build and wrote a check in July. After multiple unanswered emails between July and Nov. I finally sent a sternly worded email asking them what the hell was going on, I am in construction and understand materials are tight right now, but no communication over the course of 4 months was unacceptable. They showed up the next day to start setting posts in the holes that I dug. I will hold on giving a recommendation until we get a little further into the build. The buildings I went to see prior to choosing them were beautifully constructed though, so hopefully it was justa rockystart and things will be good now.

Don’t mean to bump an old thread but I’m curious who you ended up using and if your happy with finished product.
