Building a new garage. 24x34 with an upper level. The structure is up and has a roof, but lots more to do.
I have a couple of questions:

We remodeled our kitchen in 2024 and I saved the quartz counter tops. I was thinking I could use them for the workbench. What are the pros/cons? Has anyone out there used that?

I’d like to paint the floors. I know there’s a ton of info on that here. So, just paint, no flecks or clear. It’s a new slab. No everyday drivers going in & out. Just my old junkers I want to work on. I’ve never done it and hoping to be pointed in the right direction.

I’m sure I’ll have more, but that’s it for now.

Thanks!

I'm curious about your title. Have you moved from MN to Upstate, SC or am I reading it wrong? If you have moved, we are probably in the same area.

As for quartz countertops, it sounds really attractive but I don't think you will ever be able to use a hammer at your workbench without chipping or cracking your bench top.

Hi Lou,

Yes, moved away from MN, now we’re near Greenville. The countertops are free, and I’ll use it mostly for disassembly/assembly.
I have 3 vises to find places for, I’ll probably have a more mobile bench for banging on stuff if needed. And if the quartz doesn’t hold up, I can just replace it.

Where are you located?

Minor updates.
Windows and service door are in.
Brickwork (required by the HOA) is finished.
Traveled to MN for family business, returned yesterday with the new shops first addition.
Trench was cut today for power.
PVC is in the ground and wire pulled.
Siding, soffit, fascia are next.

The yard on the west side of the has been mostly destroyed. Can’t wait to try and grow things in the clay.
