I would suspect data mining. Gathering email accounts of folks who buy tools, then selling them to tool resellers.

Not too sure about data mining. Craigslist relays emails so neither party sees the others email address. There are still data miners, but they'll respond promptly with a bot response asking you to email them directly.

I bought my first bench grinder from a guy selling used tools off his tailgate on the side of the road. It wasn't until the next day that I realized that he had probably robbed someone's shop.

I can relate Nick Danger. Got my shop burgled in 1998 by Hisp. gang members. They made off with most of my Milwaukee horde and a P.C. worm-drive belt sander, my vintage Delta tenoning jig, and some other things.

I am very careful about buying stolen tools. If I think there is a chance they are hot, I won't buy. I likely have bought some not knowing as I buy a lot of used tools. I prefer to buy at estate auctions, at least you know where they came from
